Smokey but at the same time floral with dried rose petal, Hoi-sin and bbq burnt ends with smoked hickory bbq sauce.
In the mouth there is still plenty of acidity on the mouth, also a very lovely richness throughout and notes of dried strawberry, red currant that is full but fresh and still vibrant with that smoky, sweet charred note. Incredibly long length and an absolute pleasure to drink. The last glass was the greatest and this throws serious sediment so a decant is needed. — 10 years ago
A complex nose encompassing hoi-sin sauce, a light balsamic note, burnt molasses, mushroom, decaying bark, burnt orange peel, old cigar box, reminds me in a way of Madeira.
In the mouth there is still some acidity with the ghost of some light, delicate barely there red berry fruit, rather subtle length that you could easily overlook.

Giant blackberry/black cherry nose with peppercorn and soft smoke, cinnamon coated truffle, rosemary, asphalt-like pa-hoi-hoi. Black olive into blackberry with silky tannins and a ton of depth. Lick the rocks until you expose the silky blackberry magic. Washington leads the way again! Terroir and fruit in perfect interplay. Not for lizard people! — 10 years ago

Hoi Polloi 2014 Illicit Pinot Noir, made from grapes from a secret spectacular vineyard. The nose on this baby!!!! And the sour cherries. More austere than typical california juice, which gives it spine and nobility. Would love to taste it after a few years, if i can make me wait that long — 8 years ago
