Livermore Valley Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Greg Ballington
9.3

Another coravin sample to check in quickly. Dark and deep ruby red. Coats your teeth. Very tight on the nose, this will need at least a couple hours to open up. Just a few notes of iron, flowers and cherries. Heavy tannins (8.5/10) and full bodied. Tons of potential, would like to taste this over half a day and see where it goes. Red cherries and minerality on the palate. A little bit of spices, herbs, savory and black cherries or raspberries. Keeps gaining complexity with air. Very long and dry finish. Easily drink for two decades. 93+

Even from this short taste, highly recommend both of these Lineage vintages.

@Greg Ballington how long between coravin checking are you comfortable with? Have you noticed any difference in taste or texture if you check in months apart?

@Andrew Willingham I personally haven't gone that long. There is one bottle I last coravinned three months ago that I plan on opening next week. I don't expect any issues since it has no signs of seepage through the coravin puncture at all. When I have done it through some of my dads bottles it showed no signs of oxidation. But that is when the cork seals back up and doesn't seep. Does that make sense?

Paso Robles Syrah 2009

Dark, smoky nose. Notes of black plum, blackberries and mocha with just a whiff of alcohol. A full, rich, juicy wine with lots of spice and oak. Notes of dark fruits lead to flavors of cocoa powder, oak and black earth with big acidity. The finish is full of big, but soft teeth coating tannins with touches of spice and earth. A great wine for glazed ribs and mac and cheese! — 9 years ago

Always a powerhouse - better than the merlot and 1.5 bottlings. Cigar box, flower shop nose. Inky, teeth staining, jammy mouth. Was perfect complement to the 40 day dry aged prime rib eye, wagyu tri-tip and prime NY strip. — 10 years ago

If you appreciate the enamel on your teeth this is perhaps not the wine for you. As for me, I don't give a shit. Citrus and white stone fruit driven by racy acidity. — 10 years ago

Napa Valley Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Color of dark purple with brown hue on the rim. Nose of sweet bomb, such as ripe grape and plum. It mixes with herbs and tobacco note. Taste of sweetness like dates, concentrates apricot, dressed with soy sauce flavor. It is a crowd pleaser for sure. Aftertaste of herbs, low tannins, silky and mouthful.
Having a 2nd bottle on 10/15/16, I am pretty certain the notes I described hold. For people who have sweet teeth, this shall be under your radar.

Infanticide I know. But I bought two to put one away. Honeysuckle, white peaches, green apple, spring lemongrass, cold rain over slate. White gold color. Super long finish that coats the teeth. Delicious. Anticipate greatness in 10+ years. My son's 5 year old birthday wine for his mother. — 10 years ago
