1996 vintage. At Hotel TerraVina with my pal, Gerard Basset MW. Unfortunately we didn't get time to decant it sufficiently prior to having with lunch. Typically I would have had at least a 2 hour decant before serving. Medium garnet hue, very bright. The nose is simply stunning and evolved constantly in the glass. Blackberry, black plum, cedar wood, lots of spices, cocoa and hints of roasted coffee bean. Tertiary notes have developed but there still seems to be a bit of development to be teased out of this wine yet. The palate exhibited an enormous amount of structure - high acidity and high tannins that are ripe but chunky. There's nothing round here - more linear and angled than curvy. Almost light bodied but with a big two-step punch of a finish: there's an initial hit and then a powerful umph of additional rev's that makes your head bob up and down in joy and happiness. Though it's drinking extremely well now, this will hold for decades to come. Fabulous. — 9 years ago
Dark inky purple color, nice tannins with a soft finish — 9 years ago
The bottle I got smelled a lot like bread. This may be a flaw in the wine but i really liked it despite it's contrast to all the fruitiness of the wine — 10 years ago
This is in my top 5 all time beers — 10 years ago

This is more approachable in its youth than the Eagle Summit. Round fruit and a clean finish. — 11 years ago
Perhaps the most surprising and fantastic food/wine pairing of my life: 87 Joly CdS and a Niman Ranch bacon sandwich on potato bread with a spread of Mayo as thick as my head felt this morning after a dinner with a legend. The acid in this 1987 made German Riesling seem as alkaline as lye. It shook the bacon from the inside of my cheeks and concentrated its intensity on the middle of my palate. It made the bacon more bacon. It's 28 years old. Bad A :-) — 11 years ago
My fave Pinot Grigio in a long time. Lots of flavor, clean and crisp. — 11 years ago
Whoah ! Aged several years this is like a mellow tawny port. Raisins, prune, toffee, and tobacco. Put some of these away in your cellar and forget about them. — 8 years ago
Big - high alcohol, tons of fruit, oak, etc. A bit medicinal / vegetal that came across as slightly unintegrated. For me this needs a big fatty steak, ideally in a couple years after a long decent. — 8 years ago
This 2k Pom is drinking superbly now @ £68

🍷 Deep ruby red
👃 Like sticking your head in a old soaked oaky vat oozing heady smoke, liquorice, stewed plum, cherry, cocoa, damp cellar, wet earth, leather, truffle & mushrooms - I could sniff this all day 😍
👄 Med+ silky creamy body of gushy plum & cocoa beautifully integrated & balanced

One of my favorite fall beers. If only they sold it in Iowa! — 10 years ago
#BeerDrinkers check in. Name a better $10 BA chard. Pro tip: you can't. — 10 years ago
A very nice Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Lots of blueberry, plum, raspberry, and dark cherry on the nose. On the palate I taste plum, caramel, and a little coffee. The finish is very nice and long. Great structure in this wine with elegant tannins and almost perfect acidity in my opinion. Our wine for the night before we head back to Houston after a week in Napa and Sonoma. Sigh.......

Found it at Metro Market mixed in with the 2013. $10.50 and amazing! — 11 years ago
Deep garnet in color, with aromas of sweet berries. Quite smooth and fruit-forward with soft tannins. — 12 years ago
Nice red blend, but a little “jammy.” Had in Gvl, with Dad over steak — 8 years ago
My notes on this from May of 2017 still apply. Popped and poured. Drank well over two days. Immediately this wine impresses visually. Sure, the color is an expected deep garnet but what's most striking is the fact that it's never completely opaque at the core. You can just barely get the faintest amount of light to see through it. It's quite beautiful, really. The nose is initially a bit reticent but a few minutes of air in the glass does the trick and then it really begins to show off the most lovely perfume of mixed red and dark fruit; so fresh and pure with just a flash of garrigue. No perceptible heat on the nose. On the palate it's a veritable wonder of berries, Rainier cherries, black berry liqueur, and just a touch of fine white pepper. The body is perfectly proportioned and the finish lasts for over 30 seconds. In summary, this is an incredibly balanced 2010 CdP that is already hitting its prime. Personally, I felt it was really at its very best about two hours in which leaves me to believe it should be a great pop and pour for the next couple of years and potentially has the balance to be great for longer. That being said, there is no need to decant, just pull the cork, pour and enjoy the evolution in the glass. The hard part is allowing it to last for two hours and longer. It should be noted that this is dangerously quaffable wine and it wouldn't be hard to take the whole thing to the head. Might as well drink these sooner than later as I'm always a bit wary of CdP much beyond the 10 year mark, where I tend so find many of them fall apart on the palate. Perhaps others with more experience in the long-term ageing of CdP can chime in though. Absurd value at $30.
As a side note, this paired very nicely with pan fried pork savory bacon wrapped filet mignon. — 8 years ago
A very strong stout for a snowy night! Coziness in a bottle! — 9 years ago
Had this at a lecture on ancient fermentation, props to Dogfish for trying this, its a fruity pomegranate juice with 8+% alcohol to kick you in the ass. — 10 years ago
This baby's got HOPS. The intense hoppy bite hits you hard and fast in the front, but it mellows considerably mid-palate. The bitterness fades into a malty, almost woody body. The mouthfeel is thick and velvety for an IPA. Although I can't say it's my absolute favorite, this is a unique and thoroughly worthwhile IPA experience. — 10 years ago
Right up my alley--great balance of malt and hops, solid alcohol backbone but not overdone like some other Imperials. 90 Minute is still my benchmark, but this is a very worthy horse in those stables. Excellent! — 10 years ago

Dark fruit balanced through old oak showing light spice on the nose encouraging thought to nail a specific note but is remaining a bit of an enigma in my rock rattled head after a good day enhanced by 75 MPH Harley induced wind and the brilliance of Bose and an iPhone. Ok, back to the wine, it touches, lightly grabs spreading its dark berry mini-burst in a layered earth touched tannin slow ride making magic with some of Chapel Hill's Bin 54's straight up amazing goodness (in this case very rare filet mignon, garlic tinged green beans and almond slivers; my go to steak spot in NC). Damn, this is all so right-on! Cheers! — 11 years ago
Really pretty with nice length. 10% Syrah tossed in — 12 years ago

Bouquet of grapefruit and tobacco. I can’t wrap my head around a wine vineyard in Lebanon, but I can see the French influence. Very much enjoying a rare treat from my maternal homeland — 7 years ago
