Domaine Michel Gros

En la Rue de Vergy Morey St. Denis Pinot Noir 2016

Pop and 1 hr slow ox before tasting. On the nose: denser and more tightly wound than the 17, but still darn good: soft earth, a suggestion of coffee toast, black raspberry, soft spiced plum. On the palate: fantastic acidity, blackberry, strawberry leaf, soft, but very bright coffee notes, and finely grained tannin on the finish. This is a village wine, but it definitely seems structured to improve with some short term aging. Yum. — 3 years ago

The ‘16s are still trying to figure themselves out I think. I find that across the board. The 17’s and 15’s are much better at this point. Or at least easier to drink.

Au-dessus du Gros Mont Champagne Chardonnay 2012

$565. Less bold / oxidative than Anselme. Also less evolution from time of opening. Lightly sparkling, saline, long finish. Would not chase currently. — 6 years ago

Lovely villages wine. This vineyard sits above Clos de Tart. Punches way above its classification. Seamless. — 2 years ago

K' Sa Tête Vin de France Pineau d'Aunis 2018

LOVE. Loire might be my favourite French region.

Some green pepper on the nose. Dangerously drinkable. Food friendly. Went well with spiced ground beef and rice, but this red would be a good companion for red or white meat, Indian dishes, or on its own.

This really overdelivers for <$90 on the list at Marta. Very soft and pleasant mousse. Shimmering golden hue. Pretty red fruit. — 5 years ago

A marvelous showing for the Vergy 2008. Light on its feet yet gorgeously complex, right in between first and secondary aromatics. — 6 years ago

Les Peyrouses Viognier Blend 2017

Lyle Fass

The debut of the very rare Les Peyrouses white blend. Viognier/Marsanne/Rousanne. Just gorgeous nose. Flint, hay, citrus rind, herbal, floral, so aromatic. Killer. Exotic citrus fruit like guava and mango as well. But substantial and engagingly mineral as well. So serious. Palate is ripe and generous, with supreme elegance. Juicy and mineral with insane freshness and acidity. Clean and has that crazy N. Rhone White minerality. Amazingly dry and mineral on the finish. This seems like it can age for 15 years. Stunning. Almost tannic. Love this style of white. @Delectable Wine this is the new white. — 4 years ago

Les Dames de Vergy Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Pinot Noir 2013

Nose of cedar, red raspberry, juiced cherry, cranberry and wet leaves.

Palate has rehydrated cranberry, partially dried cherry, raspberry juice, unsweetened cranberry juice, early spring strawberry and light, loamy earth.

Slightly grippy tannins, otherwise a very smooth finish, medium length. Our first go around with this producer. I bought at a local shop tasting event, decanting this was the way to go. The fruit was solid when I first tasted, but the tannins seemed to get in the way. You'll (generally) never get to taste a bottle at a walk around that has had the proper air, so you need to go on faith and experience some times. I'm not disappointed with this bottle tonight, decent show. $25

Another 3-5 years of patience will do no harm to this bottle, likely benefit.
