Classic Cabernet descriptors of Cedar, Tobacco, Red and black fruits and a herbal note. Lovely on the palate, drinking at its peak with excellent balance - smooth, fluid, resolved tannins. One could easily pick this as a Left Bank Bordeaux in a blind tasting. Shows more French restraint than the full blown Napa style for me. Medium + weight palate with balance and concentration. Probably my favourite Napa Valley Cabernet though admittedly I have not tried some of the big guns like Harlan. Post script: A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot. No Merlot was used in the blend for 2004. — 3 years ago

Smooth and jammy. A consistently tasty product. Not a hint of metallic. Tried again after 15 years and was definitely impressed. — 6 years ago
Frangrant and fruit-driven with aromas of cherry, blueberry and sage. Subtle herbaceous notes on the palate. — 6 years ago

Primarily Zinfandel with a bit of Petite Sirah (10%) blended in. Intense dark ruby/purple color. The aromas and flavors of black cherry/raspberry, blueberry, rose petals, black licorice, fresh herbs and pepper spice are equally as intense. Noticeable vanilla and pleasant earthiness on the long and lingering finish. Rich, complex, juicy and powerful (16% Alcohol) but nicely balanced. Quite memorable. — 7 months ago
This was served during my annual WWC hosting. Typical format of sparkler, three whites, four reds, one dessert, all served blind.
Poured alongside the 2003 Mondavi VHR as a comparison. 60 cab/40 merlot.
Decanted an hour. The similarities between this and the ‘03 Mondavi VHR the first hour was shocking…even as the host, I wondered if I switched the wines. Slight hint of brett but certainly not overpowering. Leather, herbs de Provence, sweet vanilla pipe tobacco, graphite up front aromatically. Dark roast mocha, red and black berry fruit, cassis, really nice vein of acidity and tannin. This remained unchanged during the lunch. Seems like it’s in a peak window (maybe close to the top?) where I imagine it will hold another 5-7yrs easily before turning more tertiary. — 10 months ago
Deep Ruby with concentrated aromas of ripe black fruits and earthy floral spice. The palate shows rich blackberry and tart raspberry, complex, good acidity, balance and depth with ultra-smooth tannins. The long finish ended with an earthy and woody spice, cacao, and mushroom, very smooth. I am guessing that this wine is at its peak, so if you are lucky enough to find a bottle, get the corkscrew! — 4 years ago

Beautiful nose of blackberry, violet, cedar, leather, charcuterie, dried herbs. So soft and integrated now. This is at peak with purity of fruit shining through despite the age. Great stuff. — 3 years ago

Tannin Vanilla delicious fruit. Blueberry pie. — 5 years ago
Deep, dark red, cherry, vanilla and warm briar fruit aromas. Full and silky with spunky tannin kick on the mid palate. Juicy and jammy with a mild sweetness. Good with any meal.
