Chianti Classico Sangiovese 1980
Surprisingly youthful, wasn't sure what to expect, as we popped and poured, at first the nose would have you believe this was burgundy, with funky leather notes, but as it opened in the glass, great Sangiovese aromatics emerged, with fresh cherries, dried thyme and sweet tobacco on the finish.

Cherry and leather nose. Mid range palate , smooth at first, not heavy, really opens and shines with a Sunday gravy meat sauce.
Evidently, Catignano is a specific, higher elevation plane, and or in this case, an organic offering from Dievole. They sure do put out quite a bit.
As the wine opens w protein and acids, it’s rather tannic and juicy in the inner mouth. A surprise of quality from a large scale producer. It’s nice leathery, cherry, mineral Sangiovese perfect for tomato based pasta dishes.
