Goat Head Red Blend

2017 tasted June 2019. The 2016 is totally different, and the ‘17 is much much better. Mint and chlorophyll on the nose. Unripe cherries on the front, but it has a nice tannic structure balanced between smooth buttery tannins and slightly puckery tannins. A very nice drinking claret! — 6 years ago

Kistler

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2002

Somm David T
9.2

Nose of; dark fresh florals, red roses & violets, spiced plum, raisins, fresh, dry & sour dark cherries, cherries, dry cranberries, boysenberries, a black cherry liqueur quality, warm toast, baked; black berries, blueberries, black tea, limestone and hint of black licorice. The palate is; full, round, ripe, dark and lush. Ripe & slightly sour dark cherries, blackberries, blueberries, plums, dry cranberries, raisins, boysenberries, black cherry liqueur quality, toast, black tea, limestone soil, touch of turned black earth, black tea, underbrush, softest presence of faint baking spices; cinnamon, nutmeg, clove & even fainter vanilla with suede type leather. The finish is well structured & elegance, nice balance of fruit & earth, round & lush with acidity the pours and drips over the palate. Interesting note, their Sonoma vineyard is a place where the North American continent ends abruptly in ragged, vertical cliffs and the San Andreas Fault runs directly or very near the underfoot of vineyard. Photos of the beautiful rolling Sonoma Coast vineyard, soil composition and aerial shot of Kistler. — 8 years ago

Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2012

At the foot of the Solutre and Vergisson cliffs, Pouilly-Fuissé not to be confused with Pouilly Fume, is a wine from the Loire, has become famous throughout the world. Enthusiasts like its elegance and lively, silky texture. The 2012 Vintage: Pale light golden color with aromas of stone and tropical fruits, with a waft of floral. The palate shows ripe apple and peach flavors with citrus notes. This medium-body wine has good balance with a smooth creamy finish, ending with mineral tones. Very Nice! — 9 years ago

Marea Cinque Terre White Blend 2016

$32 @bdwinecenter •

From what I understand after translation, this blend’s contents were produced between Riomaggiore and Volastra (of and around Cinque Terre). In my travels through Italy this past summer, I actually had the chance to visit Riomaggiore. In this seaside town of Cinque Terre, I learned that the wines produced there are very hardy. Not only are the majority of these Cinque Terre vineyards constructed into the side of the cliffs/mountains/hills (whatever you’d like to label them, they’re featured on the bottle), they are also mere meters from the sea in some cases. I remember one of the local ladies of one of the five seaside towns telling me of one vineyard (can’t remember which one, probablyyy had too much wine that day) that was only 60 meters away from the surf. With this info in mind, you know that salt water will be absorbed through the grape vines, influencing the grapes’ taste. This results in a very light, delicate brine. It almost reminds me of a sea urchin, and on a lighter note, Haruno’s seaweed salad. 😂 I really dig this wine. A very translucent gold, almost a straw. Definitely let this one warm up a tad, from drinking it completely chilled to room temp, it’s an amazing change. Definitely prefer it after some warmth has reached it. And can we talk about how amazing it is that this wine had the chance to come to the US from like 5,000 miles away where the populations probably don’t exceed a couple of thousand people—and a select few of those choosing to devote their entire lives to cultivating these grape vines? Cheers to finally getting off work 🍻#cinqueterre #manarola #riomaggiore #wine #winetasting #photooftheday #instagood #italy #blend #white #travel #love #bisson

The Magician Evergreen Vineyard Riesling 2015

Somm David T
9.1

The 2015 Magician is 100% Riesling from Evergreen Vineyard, located high on the cliffs high above the Columbia River in the middle of Washington State. On the nose; nice tropicals, green apple, pear, lemon, lime, a little white pepper and fresh yellow florals. On the palate, fresh, bright fruits of; green apple, lemon, lime, pineapple, green melon and guava. Spring florals, saline, chalky minerals, nice round acidity and beautiful, slightly oily, round finish. Photos of; their tasting bar, Trey Busch - Co-owner/Winemaker and old Jukebox in their tasting room. Producer/Owner notes...A Pearl Jam concert is one of the reasons Trey ended up in the Pacific NW after seeing them in his first concert ever in Atlanta. In 1992, Trey moved to the Pacific Northwest. He got a job at Nordstrom and worked there for 8 years. Trey was then offered the chance to get into the wine business with the Dunham Cellars. Eric Dunham, the winemaker and owner of Dunham Cellars help shape Trey for his career in winemaking. Trey got hooked on winemaking after his first crush at Dunham Cellars where he stayed until starting "Sleight of Hand Cellars" in 2007. — 8 years ago

Domaine Cherrier et Fils

Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2014

At Arugula with Ellen and Dominique. Learned: Sancerre is located on the left bank of the Loire River, in the Loire Valley, right in the center of France (some 125 miles from Paris). Overlooking the river, the vineyards of Sancerre are spread over 7200 acres of rolling hills, with perfect conditions for cultivating vines. The same chalk famous in the White Cliffs of Dover runs down through Champagne and Chablis into Sancerre, where it is cut through by a series of small valleys, each with their own microclimate and terroir. The two grape varieties used in Sancerre are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The white wines are fresh, fruity, and elegant, the roses are delicate and subtle, and the reds are perfumed and smooth.

Anima Negra

ÀN/2 Callet Blend

Wow this is neat wine from Mallorca.

Smells as if it has been filtered through cavernous cliffs. The fruit is all flinty, bright, and interesting. Lots of pit and rind, a great wine that showcases how well wines can grow and absorb the ocean air. The Saline shows itself in the wine, if only slightly.
Enjoyed at one of José Andrés fine establishments.

Vaillons Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay

Preserved lemon creeps up through the white White Cliffs of Dover, where the rich white minerality seeps in and accompanies your two dozen oysters with gusto. If this smells like oyster shell because I told you it tastes like oyster shells? You’re right. You don’t? Ok we’re done. If you don’t like it? Great, you’ll save a whole bunch of money. Best drunk at a minimum of 10 years aged so this one is splendid. — 8 years ago

Pinot Noir

NV Pinot Noir, and I can't remember when I purchased it...4ry ago? So this is 2010, 2011 fruit. My wife and I got married at this winery. It's on the cliffs in Mendocino. The wines vary radically. This is really good and now with a touch of age a little old world in profile. Dusty cranberry and imminently drinkable — 9 years ago
