Mémoire de Vignes Champagne Pinot Noir 2011

Gary Westby
9.6

Patrick Arnould passed over 2009 & 2010, but decided to make this 2011- a strange decision on paper. This all old-vine Pinot blanc de noir has it where it counts- in the bottle. Only 60 bottles for the USA, now 59. This seems lighter than past vintages, but still has that Nutella like hazelnut character that screams Verzenay. I will wait a year or two to have my next bottle for sure... But this long wine sure did go down easy last night! — 8 years ago

La Perrière Mercurey Pinot Noir 2012

Full, herbal, ripe and oaky on the nose, obviously still young but more than ready to play. Odors of licorice and Fernet or Chartreuse come through. Thank goodness this has been open since yesterday, it almost certainly needed it. On the palate, bright cassis, wild strawberry and herbal liquor comes through with jasmine and finely structured tannins. Yumyumyum. — 9 years ago

Out with Adrianne Haslet Davis and Katie Jenkins. We wanted a lighter red for the warm weather and this was perfect. Light berries. A tinge of tobacco. Etc etc. — 10 years ago

Jealous (as I sit in the office)! A high rating from a tough critic, will have to put this juice on the watch list...

Hey Kent
It's all a matter of maturation! We are old vintage and you are still young on the vine! Cheers Rob

Stolen from Eric asimov's twitter. "The most amaro-like champagne I've ever tasted. Wouldn't be surprised if it were closed with averna. "
