Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2015

Truly my kind of white. Oily, dry and with a character of its own. Equally suitable w/ & w/o food: Try it w/ monkfish! 2 years celebration, 15/3-2018 — 6 years ago

Los Osos Paso Robles Merlot 2014

Ruby color with aromas of raspberry and strawberry. Medium acidity and low tannin. Dry. Medium finish of tart raspberry. Good starter or served with something like salmon or greens. Wouldn't play to well with a more meaty entre. Price is right under $20 but we could probably do better. — 7 years ago

Riverstone Arroyo Seco Chardonnay 2013

Light and refreshing. Fruity flavors with slight vanilla undertones. Very crisp, but has a slight bite in the aftertaste. Would be great with mussels, crab, or a sharp cheese platter. — 9 years ago

J. Rochioli

Little Hill Pinot Noir 2005

It's still a puppy and needed a good amount to open up. From start to finish one of the best American Pinots I've had. Elegant and complex, red fruit and a lot of earth notes. — 10 years ago

I don't get a chance to drink many wines that behave like this one. It just kept changing. I have not had their other single vineyards but I was floored by this one.

West Block Pinot Noir 2008

Rochioli West Block might be my favorite. 2008 is also drinking very well right now. Bittersweet that this is our last meal at Scopa. It's been a delicious run. 😢😋 — 7 years ago

Colorado Syrah 2011

This is the best wine my grandfathers made. Even got a picture of him drinking it. This Syrah is huge in body and spicy like no other. Intense black peppercorn on the nose, lush creamy berry up front. Finishes again peppercorn spice. This is as good as it gets. — 10 years ago

Willamette Valley Unfiltered Pinot Noir 2013

Finally it's come into play! Sanguine with wild strawberries dancing. Discreet fruit but delicious. This is a winemaker to keep watch on and 'throw down' for the cellar. — 7 years ago

Nose of slightly syrupy and jammy blue fruits of; olallieberries, blueberries, huckleberries, black raspberries, blackberries, spiced plums, dark cherries, dark cherry cola, expresso roast, dried dark flowers, spice, cinnamon & anise, dry stems and leather. On the palate, full bodied, round, juicy with fine powdery tannins and darkly elegant. Fruits, of; blueberries, olallieberries, black raspberries, blackberries, plums, dark cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg. mocha powder, light vanillin, anise, espresso roast, black tea, soft leather, finely dry crushed rock powder, graphite, underbrush, poached strawberries hit the long palate set, dark rich earth, dry red flowers, liquid violets and notes of tarriness. The finish is nice resolved dark tannins, great balance of fruit & earth, solid structure, nice tension, rich, full elegance and perfect acidity that rains over the palate. Lail owns and uses fruit from two estate vineyards; the Totem Vineyard in Yountville; which is part of the original Inglenook vineyard estate. This vineyard is named after a Totem pole that was the founder of Inglenook Winery, Gustav Niebaum. Their Mole Hill vineyard is located high on the slopes of Howell Mountain at about 1600 feet. Still has 8-10 years of good life ahead of it. Photos of the Lail Vineyards and small estate building without a tasting room. — 7 years ago
