Very peculiar nose (I would never have placed it in medoc) with red fruits, a bit of toast, almond, tobacco. I would have placed it in Italy blind, wow! The palate is very well made but again nothing like something you would expect from a rive gauche wine. It's rather thin and very much acid driven, you could almost chew it. Raspberries, red currant, before a mid palate with a nice tannins layer that dries up with a dusty touch. Nice finish with the same red berries and that drying effect. Unexpected Bordeaux in a very nice style. You cannot feel the barrel aging at all, I like it very much — 4 years ago
Dark fruit, blackcurrant, blackberries, licorice, some cedar and a touch of graphite, very typical left bank aromas to go with a lush and velvety palate, rich and elegant, structured and balanced, good length, really good 2008 LB. 93-94

Love this red. Velvety smooth, tannic, subtle licorice. Excellent. — 4 years ago
Fermé à l’ouverture mais se révèle ensuite de façon magistrale, puissant et racé, très typé rive gauche, un vrai délice. 93-94
Closed when opened ( pop and Pour) but reveals itself after with such grace and power, very left bank, great potential and great bottle. — 4 years ago
Classic left bank aromatics, medium bodied, medium tannins but fine grained texture, medium plus length, nice balance and drinks really well with tremendous value for the price. 88-89
Nez assez typique de la de rive gauche, corps moyen, tannins moyens de grains assez fins, finale de longueur très correcte pour le niveau, bel équilibre et se boit super bien, surtout pour le prix. 88-89

Dark wild berries, red currant, violets, cedar, dusty leather, tobacco leaf, bell pepper, lots of gravel, river rocks, hint of manure. Highly aromatic, med-full body, med + acidity, powdery tannins. Quite a classic and regal Chinon with spot-on aromatics and highly mineral-driven texture, giving the sensation of picking wild berries covered in dust and rock particles. Nice balance of vegetal/herbal and the earth/mineral components. 100% organically farmed 50-year old vines from one of the great parcels on the left bank. Very affordable to boot. — 7 years ago

— 9 years ago

I really enjoyed this wine. It’s massive — 16.0% — but not gauche. It’s smooth, low tannin even though young, it is fruity up front but surprisingly dry in the back. It’s wild, with intense flavors (pepper? Even though it’s mourvedre?), lower residual sugar than I expected. The winery recommends the bottle to be upright for a week followed by a 3-4 hour decant. I honored the decant but not the upright. I used a filter but the sediment seemed extremely low. Delightful. $250. — 3 years ago
