Mixed2 of us really like it and two don't. But I am the one rating! Slightly sweet and mellow smooth. — 8 years ago
This is quite a complex wine. Give it some time to breathe and it will reward you for that. Doesn't need any more time to age, if anything drink it soon. I didn't have another to compare it to, but it may be just past it's prime. Primary flavours: Tobacco, stewed plum, dried sour cherry. Secondaries: leather, smoke, white pepper, vanilla. Tertiaries: green capsicum, spearmint. Full body, long finish, very intense, very complex, many levels of expression.
The short answer - buy it and drink it — 8 years ago
80+ year old vines. Old and insanely steep roman terraces planted to mencia. This wine needs a lot of air. If you don't give them air, they can seem like simple wines. I drank half, re corked and left alone in a cool place. Day 3 was nuts. Very intense representation of place. Electric acidity, vivid dark & juicy berries with intense granite minerality. Almost graphite like. If you like N. Rhone and Cru Beaujolais, pay attention to D. Ventura. — 9 years ago
Delicate right off the bat -- I mean this is a bottle that, based on harvesting seasons, is older than one of the people who drank it... So our sommelier had to Ah-so it open and decant due to sediment but the resulting #wine was clean and clear... But that was just the start.
The beauty of this wine is that it started off highlighting the obvious things -- some ripe fruit and some earth, not quite integrated but just you wait, just you wait... And we did... We hung out with this wine for 2 hours and I swear, every 20 mins or so we found ourselves discovering a new element in the glass.
The moderate plus acidity suddenly blended in well with the fruit that resembled a creamy raspberry and strawberry texture that combined with a chalkiness of a forest floor covered in dried leaves and rocks.
It kept going...at times bumping up the pepper and then shrinking back into a light, rose petal-y drinker that made me happy. Needless to say, this thing ended pairing well with anything we had -- duck, charred octopus w molé (especially this), a funky version of spaghetti carbonara. Its age gave it versatility that it never realized it had.
Overall it's like a Grenache-based blend that managed to not only settle in and play well with its friends but also unexpectedly invited new kids to join in but only for a few minutes until they had to go back home. — 9 years ago
Everything I want in a summer red, hence the high rating. No pretension. Focused berry fruit, minerality, violet petal. Enjoyed it after 10 minutes in the fridge. Great value as well. — 11 years ago
Brown apple, honeyed and wax. Ready to drink; 1/2 bottle well stored & still great acidity but has started the electric s-l-i-d-e — 11 years ago
Firing. On. All. Cylinders. Wine was purchased about 3.5 years ago in a six-pack and was intended to be consumed rather fast. Back story: ran into a 12 pack of 2005 "Prima Voce" close to 10 years ago at about 10 bucks per bottle and was told it was "ok" for an Italian blend but it wouldn't last longer than a year or so (but noone knew for sure). It. Killed. Come to realize the only reason it was available readily in the states was because Kendall Jackson acquired them. Fast forward about 6 years from that and requested to find this one. Today, Arceno is still under the KJ umbrella. Have slowly been drinking on the ones I found a few years ago. This wine is rather aromatic even from Coravin. Dirty raspberry, grilled meat, Italian spice on the nose. Medium + density and mouthfeel. Acidity has died down quite a bit, allowing a floral dirty raspberry to show up front, losing a lot of sweetness. that I remember,Leathery and "bloody" in the middle. Finishes with some brambly herb, green olive, and a hint of black pepper spice. This wine is RIGHT at the top of the hill now. There are many 12 year old Chiantis that I would gladly pass on, but this one is a definite "yes please" even at 12 years of age. Ratings likely in the 8's because people just don't give this one the time that it needs. D — 7 years ago
This is good stuff but maybe high on price for what I get out of it, we'll see how it opens up — 8 years ago
Everything I expect in a D&R wine but more: this took a full day and a half to come around, very closed initially. There is a slightly gray-ish tinge to the light purple color - like antique violet. The nose has only a bare touch of funk but a definite earthiness, with tar and subtle wet leaves framing sweet plum and mulberry. The feel is light but the tannic frame is definite and this will need a few years or, like I did, a few days open to really strut its stuff. The finish lingers with something both fruity and floral. I like old Bandol, but find many of them more than a bit rustic. This is like taking Tempier and filtering through a Burgundian sensibility with a kiss of sunshine. Great work. #hardywallace — 8 years ago
M: Wow, this is interesting. At first I got crab apple with a rose petal finish. After 1.5 minutes of respiration (by the wine), the rose petal has been replaced by maple, but with a slight cayenne kick. I gotta agree with the guy who compared this to an indie rock band. Exciting in that "I know something everybody else doesn't" kinda way.
D: Tastes like a cheery tootsie pop with spice, but only after it has time to breathe. Interesting. Solid 9.0 score. — 9 years ago
Reliable good value. Hard to find, though. I get at Lisbon in Newark's Ironbound. — 9 years ago
Utsökt. Choklad, salmiak, örtigt. Balanserat och mjukt, men det stannar kvar i flabben. — 10 years ago
Soft tannin, medium body with classic cherry and plum notes w a hint of vanilla. Indeed very elegant - I like! Goes perfectly w the sweet cherries I picked up at the farmers market today :D — 10 years ago
Pleasant sipper with medium acidity and an undertaste of salinity typical of Assyrtikos. It was a bit disjointed until later on the second day. I think I had liked the 2012 much better last summer. — 10 years ago
Best 30€ i have ever spend!! ❤️Nebbiolo!!! — 11 years ago
Celebrating the season. DH and I aren't sold on this offering from B-C. Enjoyable? Yes. Memorable? No. — 11 years ago
either I actually found a Pinot Grigio I like or I’m drunk :D — 7 years ago
15' Margerum D SB. D is a blend of McGinley Vineyard "The Point" Sauvignon Blanc and Grassini Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc. I had the 2015 Grassini Reserve SB and enjoyed it.
A blending of neutral & new oak. Lime all day! Lemon peel, Nectarines. Moderate amount of acidity. Beautiful balance! Serve at cellar temperature! — 8 years ago
I don't know what Jeanne d' Arc might say, but the taste of this wonderfully balanced, smokey, earthy wine was reminiscent of the semillon grape, and it paired quite well with cote de boeuf! Interesting green bottle to boot! — 8 years ago
Wow the hype is real. First D&R wine and I loved this so much. — 8 years ago
Nice. Medium plus body bordering on full. A titch tannic but i probably should have decanted it longer. Great black fruit. Had with beef tenderloin and lobster — 9 years ago
Complex with that distinct oaky big red flavour I enjoy — 9 years ago
This shit is cool. a) has a pink glass cork b) a color pink I normally reject in flowers or wines c) Austrian rosé d) slightly fizzy when you pop it #bangbang #winesathome certified would bang again. — 9 years ago
I think this wine is all about the nose. Beautiful nose with leather and some pepper, but falling apart once on the palate. A cool wine for the value and vintage. — 10 years ago
Cherry Ricola, Fireballs, crushed flowers, incense, ash and dusty finish ~ not for everyone but I D!G it — 10 years ago

One out of 5,232. Bright, fresh and full of life. Aromas of cranberry, strawberries and rhubarb. Spicy at the back of a long finish. Wish I had 5,231. Happy Birthday!!! — 7 years ago
