What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome. — 11 years ago

Thanks. I got my hands on a couple of 66s the other day with levels around the top half of the embossed brand. Don't have much experience with ullage in this bottle shape so that's reassuring to hear!

My guest brought this in from there wine cell. I decanted the wine let it say for about 1 hour. I used a Osso to open this bad boy up, I didn't wanna break the cork. The cork came out smooth and beautiful. As for the wine, my guest gave me a lil taste and it was magnificent!! Smooth tannis bright fruit just awesome!! — 11 years ago

A little rough in the aromatics. Cork was suspect, looked and smelled a bit funky. wine was otherwise youthful in the mouth with raspberry, tar, spice and plenty of lively acid. Have a few more '89s and think its time. overall a beautiful wine still but perhaps in aromatic decline. - 1989 vintage — 12 years ago
