100% Pinot Noir
Semi pale, bricked garnet. Transparent. Slightly widened rim.
Bouquet of bright red cherry, cinnamon, with slightly woodsy backend.
Surprisingly tannic still, med plus acidity, dry. Bright red fruits which shows better on the second day. Damp soil tone, stuffy antic, freshly ploughed meadow. Finish long on licoriced fruit cake, baking spices.
Surprisingly lively. Very enjoyable, perfectly mature Burgundy that won't break your bank. Peak. 90. — 8 years ago

Berries and acid. A tasty consolation to probably not winning the Powerball. — 10 years ago
Yummy — every day Tuesday wine that can age! My last bottle of ‘14. Still tasty! Slight consolation for LIV. — 6 years ago
This is the oldest liquid I’ve ever had the honor to enjoy, from 1815. Made in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte who passed away 6 years after it’s production. It was so oxidized it wasn’t brown at all. More of this olive-green color to it, and very clean on the pallet. I’ll never forget this. All these unicorn wines were shared with us from Mr. George Dos Santos personal cellar in Lyon. So tonite, I’m enjoying two great artists: Miles Davis, “Kind Of Blue,” 1959, and Manfred Krankl, “Poker Face,” 2004. My all-time favorite Jazz recording (consolation prize to Chet Baker), and my knock down, drag out, unwavering all-time favorite Non-barrel aged SQN Syrah. Fairly bold statement, right? Plenty of great SQN Syrah over the years. But none that over-stimulate the olfactory senses, and catapult the taste buds to warp speed every single time I pull the cork. 15.5% alcohol. Impenetrably dark, opaque, achromatic, inky, motor oil appearance. Off the charts aromatic exhibition of incense, spice box, black pepper, Blackberry liqueur, wet stones and floral notes. Similar palate profile. Definitely fruit driven complexity, but less noticeable oak this time along with some developing nuances of mushroom, forest floor and roasted game. Pure silk texture. Positively chewy. Concentrated and dense, yet subtle and nuanced. A huge wine that’s light on its feet. Stopwatch still running on the finish. Miles and Manfred. Always pushing the envelope, but still instantly recognizable styles. Art transcends genres. “Dedicated to M’s adopted Brother.” — 8 years ago

Igor did pretty well on his consolation prize. At Djuret. — 10 years ago
1995: The "Oh well, why not" consolation prize wine, opened to keep the conversation going. Classic La Mission nose, very supple and approachable on the palate. Vaporized a bit quickly on the finish, yet wrapped up the evening nicely with a little breeding. — 10 years ago
It's officially Spring in New England, as witnessed by the 4-6" of snow still covering our property. 🤨
This means it's chimnea time again 🔥 and I've collected some snow into a sizeable mound to act as our outdoor chill station for hopefully the next 6 weeks or so 🤞.
Today's theme is wines we can drink slightly colder and still have some appreciating quality.
Toasty brioche spread with a dollop of warm sugared butter, yum. We could drink this all afternoon. It was a comp bottle from our local 5 🌟 AAA restaurant after they gave my wife's coat to another lady, following an extensive wine dinner. It was of minor consolation on a chilly and snowy December night. We did get the coat back the following afternoon, and it was accompanied by this bottle. We're only a short drive from the restaurant, so the bottle was palatable then, and now. — 8 years ago
