Comptoir Des Grands Vins

J.H. Andresen

40 Year Matured in Wood White Porto

Beautiful light brick-brown colour with pink reflections. First nose evolved on dried fruits, nuts, apricots, then notes evoking maple syrup, peach syrup, hazelnut. Light, creamy, deep, paradoxical fine as great wines know how to make us experience it. Remanent finish, to be tasted certainly once in a lifetime when you can as an aperitif, such as on desserts based on nuts, chocolate, apricots, or with a camembert with raw milk. Serve a little refreshed.

After trying several bottles of similar wines of similar regions - this was everything we wanted in a wine - fruity but not too much - subtle tang, earthy and fruity and flawless. — 9 years ago

CFGV (Compagnie Française des Grands Vins)

Le Cardinale Brut Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay

Light straw in color with a golden hue.

Very aromatic nose of lemons, white flowers, yeast, green apples, grapefruits, minerals, spices, herbs and white pepper.

Light bodied with high acidity and a lot of tiny bubbles.

Dry on the palate with green apples, grapefruits, bread, spices and white pepper.

Medium plus in length with limes and bitter almonds.

A well balanced sparkling wine from France. Enjoyable by itself or with food. Good quality, fruity and refreshing.
I had it at the end of the meal, by itself. This is delightful.

10.5% alcohol by volume.

Marcel Lapierre

Morgon Gamay 2019

When you open a Lapierre you know you are going to have a good time. A gourmet wine with immediate pleasure as the Beaujolais floods know how to produce. Here we are dealing with one of the great artisans of natural wine without the inconvenience that this type of wine sometimes produces. It is a magnificent expression of Gamay, with volume, depth, relief. the nose is just wow! The mouth is incredibly charming .. to (re) discover.

Charmes-Chambertin Red Bordeaux Blend 1979

Darker than expected; solid, if a little vaguely defined nose - underripe strawberries and a hint of red pepper and peppercorns. A little green but still with lovely depth of flavour and fine acidity. — 9 years ago

Drinking well. Good amount of acidity, but the fruit has pulled back a bit. Super rustic! I've been waiting 12 years to drink this and apparently we picked a prime time for it. — 11 years ago

Domaine de la Roseraie

Grands Vins de Bourgogne Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1947

Poured blind. Nose of cabernet sauvignon. Estate was located in Grignan, ie current CdR orbit (but post-war labeling hilarity / historical reference to classical Kingdom of Burgundy with capital at Arles?). Fascinating, dazzling, unexplainable. Color guesses ran ‘70s (totally clear rim, some super thin hint of browning, but still very pure dark core running almost to the edge before). Great length, but again blind we all called cabernet nose for the minty, cedary character. Body maybe suggested some cinsault, but we were all way off mark served blind. Château Maylandie

Villa Ferrae Corbières-Boutenac 2014

Friday night, what should I pick up at the neighborhood PCC? Why, this little Languedoc red blend, and on sale? Well, ok then! This bottle is 40% Grenache, 30% Carignan, 30% Syrah from the Corbières-Boutenac AOC, with the Boutenac terroir receiving AOC status in 2005. The wine region is in the south of France, nestled between the Mediterranean and the Spanish border with 95% of the wine coming out of Languedoc, and Corbières especially, being red wine. This specific winery has been operating since 1987, with grapes growing on and off on their farms since Roman times. The bottle has a sticker that indicates a gold medal place in the 2016 Concours des Grands Vins de France à Macon - not sure I'm on board with that, however paired with a rich spinach risotto with crispy leaks, it served its purpose nicely. ~$17 | #languedoc #corbieres #redblend

On the eyes: Deep, concentrated, ruby red, med stain, med tears, no gas/floc.

On the nose: Burnt orange peel, red plum, raspberry, bit of vanilla, nutmeg. Med alcohol.

On the tongue: Med+ tannin, med+ acid, med alcohol, med body, a bit chewy. Bright raspberry, ripe plum, a bit of tobacco, a bit peppery, good mineralty. Not much of a finish - but quite pleasant with food. Decant and let it open!
