I'm giving it a 9 because #Bobal is a difficult grape and this wine is elegant and well balanced. It's logical that others have said tannic because the grape itself is very thick skinned and tannic and this wine uses some #wholecluster and the combination produces a medium- chewy tannin to the finish of this wine. P F stands for Pie Franco which means original pre philoxera rootstock. Nice wine. For me it's more reminiscent of a Croze Hermitage than a Malbec. — 9 years ago

Dom Perignon 1964, in magnum, shared today with Jacques Pepin on a Global Express 5000 to the Aspen Classic. I brought a Spanish porron (i.e., wine bong) and Jacques was game. Incredibly, the Champagne still had bubble, along with terrific hazelnut, brioche flavors. The landing was extra smooth and Jacques – In his cool broken English – said he thought it was because the flight attendant must have slipped him some of the DP. Fine by me. Best pre-1970's Champagne I've had.

From a 4.78 ha plot, from ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines, surprisingly elegant, expected it to be a monster, somewhat similar to right bank Bordeaux from that very year. Complex aromas of cassis, tobacco, menthol, stout and pepper. Deep and concentrated, gravelly tannins with a long sweet finish. 14.5% — 11 years ago
