Retail notes,
Perched above the Dão river that snakes its way through granite valleys, the Adega de Penalva is one of the leading cooperatives in the area. The group boasts around a thousand member growers, but it’s important to note that the average holding per member amounts to barely over a hectare. From these small plots they craft simple but delicious wines with a real sense of place. This wine is 40% Encruzado, with 30% Malvasia and 30% Cerceal, hand-harvested, fully destemmed and fermented and raised in stainless steel. — 5 years ago

I swooped this random Portuguese white blend from my local when I needed something light to pair with a seafood paella I was making last night. This is a blend of three grapes I have very little experience with: Bical, Maria Gomes (Fernão Pires) and Cerceal. The wine pours a bright golden color with medium viscosity. One the nose, the wine is medium intensity with green apple, pear, star fruit, grass clippings, verbena and honeysuckle. On the palate, pears, green apple, minerals and beeswax. Medium+ acid. The finish is long and lip smacking. This was a really huge surprise and massively satisfying for under $20. Yet another reason why I should be drinking more Portuguese whites. — 4 years ago

The 2011 is ok. This is a light wine with a little bite. A wine that would go fine with fried chicken. — 9 years ago

An amazing wine. Since I came back from Lisbon I'm very keen on Portuguese wines. But I choose them wisely. This time I've chosen almost perfectly. The wine is bold and mild. The nose is full of aromas of red currant and vanilla. It gave me a lot of pleasure. — 7 years ago
