Deep and clear butterscotch gold. Big bosomy nose of baked quince and true butterscotch. Medium full palate confirms the nose adding lemon rind, birch, and a hint of white pepper. Bracing acidity from entry to moderate finish supports it all. Ripe, New World fruit pairs with a cool Burgundian structure to make a great pair for a wide range of fare, from seafood to cream sauces to roasted fowl or pork. Take to Thanksgiving dinner or hold through 2026. — 7 months ago

Earthy and tart with a smooth finish that's a little oaky/ vanilla — 7 years ago
2011. Complex nose. Deeply pitched ripe dark berry fruit, wood smoke and piercing rock dust notes. Sledgehammer powerful in the mouth. Almost overwhelming rich dry extract coats the mouth. Huge body. Finish is very long with pure dark berry notes and dark minerals competing to see who quits first. Great wine. But you have to pick your moments for this one. — 9 years ago
Nice spice and red fruits on the palate. Hints of wet road tar and smoke. Not a strong finish but nice — 10 years ago
Dark purple/ruby color made from high altitude fruit. Quite aromatic featuring cooked plums and blueberries with hints of violet, mint and lavender. Juicy plum and blueberry flavors fill the palate with additional notes of baking spices and roasted nuts. A bit of cedar on the long finish. Medium-plus body with pretty fine tannins. Vibrant with some tension. Nice choice, Keith S! — 6 months ago

Almost as old as me but much more delicious! — 9 months ago
Darker, heavier red from Priorat. New oak, black fruit, red fruit. In a really good place with 13 years aging. — 9 months ago
Very dark fruits, medium to heavy bodied. cherries, dark plums, blueberry, black currants, espresso, and hints of dark chocolate followed by medium peppery notes and mild peppercorn. Mild chewiness and leather. It is excellently balanced, and a very elegant wine. Decanted for 40 minutes and enjoyed over several hours, as it continued to evolve. — 6 years ago
Really nice red blend from Spain subtle contrast and fruit with low tannins, great everyday wine. — 6 years ago

White - Another fantastic wine from Lopez de Heredia, aged for six years in barrel a wonderful vintage that aged greatly, light waxy and oxydation notes - always happy to get this great classics from one of the best traditional producer of Rioja :) — 9 years ago

The '11 Bodegas Barco de Piedra Tempranillo is proof that good wine doesn't have to be expensive. Bluish purple in color, this medium-bodied wine emits a bouquet of black fruits, cherries, licorice, pepper and leather. It's delightfully creamy, velvety and complex. Very impressive for the money. — 11 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over a 90 minute period. No formal notes. Slightly deeper in color than the Benanti enjoyed before and there’s a bit more depth in general when comparing the two. Ripe strawberries and cherries. Savory. Good structure. Drinking well now but this has the stuffing to mature gracefully over the next decade. — 6 months ago
@Sipping Fine Wine you can be a really douche. Maybe some people are into the 15 dollar wines. But you don't have to be a jerk about it. I'd rather pay 10 to 15 dollars for a very drinkable wine than pay 40 for a crap wine that has a nice label. — 8 months ago
A phenomenal wine that really rewards a minimum of 2, but ideally 3 hours of breathing time. The nose is simply intoxicating and the acidity and red fruits are so finely balanced that it just melts in your mouth. What a treat! — 2 years ago
Dark berries and a hint of orange peel, with a little graphite and stone. Medium acidity and tannins. Very good value, which is typical of the wines I’ve had from this producer. — 6 years ago
