Mineral metallic iron and red fruit nose. Red fruit and herb flavor, dried cherry, tobacco, raw rhubarb. Gritty texture. With Chris Carpenter, Laura Díaz Muñoz and Mariano Navarro. — 9 years ago
Big cab with big Chris Carpenter styling bold Aussie fruit with great American wine making,.. Trueman is a win and will be exceptional in years to come. — 10 years ago
Terrific purity in this quintessential Napa Cab. Decanted for about 2 hrs. Dark red and blue fruit, currant, mint and fresh flowers. Powerful yet elegant. Mr Carpenter made something special at a reasonable price point. — 10 years ago
Delicious. — 10 years ago
Quite flavorful. So much so that it's nearly *not* just a table wine. — 10 years ago
Lovely garrique. A true Provençal white with plenty of aromatic spice. Versatile enough to complement a large portion of the menu at walrus and carpenter. Loved it. — 12 years ago
Wow... Just wow. Hats off to Mr. Carpenter. Elegant, almost steadfast in saying, "I'm mountain Cabernet" without blowing my face off. — 10 years ago
Drank at dinner at Old Hickory Restaurant at Gaylord Grapevine in DFW with Jim Carpenter - Amick Farms — 10 years ago
1985 out of magnum at this day in age is absolutely charming. Both savory and rounded and resonant with camphor, dark fruits of the forest, resinous violin bow rosin, and underscored by the rare structure of a master carpenter underscored by a currant leaf come eucalypt edge that throws all its countless other charms into relief. Oh to embrace every stage as this opens up. A handsome taste of Saint Julien from a legendary house worthy of its renown -and at a delectable place in time served from this format. Seek this out. — 10 years ago
Proof that vintages on the floor of Napa do not represent vintages on the mountain appellations. Luscious tannins and firm acidity drive home a hammer of a wine. Chris Carpenter knows his stuff. Drink now but wait 3-5 years for a softer profile. — 10 years ago
Nice smooth wine a bit past its prime but we liked it — 10 years ago
