The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is quite mineral in the glass. Ashen stones, savory grilled herbs and smoked meats give way to woodland berries. This is dark and radiant, showing the classic racy fruit of the year, yet unbelievably soft and plaint, taking on a saline edginess toward the close. It finishes youthfully coy with dusty tannins, leaving just a touch of lingering licorice. The Montosoli is understated today, yet with a feminine beauty and inner sweetness that I find attractive. Really a delicious brunello. Surprisingly ready to go - opened several hours prior but didn’t decant. Great black fruit, excellent balance, very good refreshing acid, medium plus tannins but works with food. Would be interesting to see in a couple years but quite nice now. — 7 months ago
Dark garnet color. Aromas and flavors of black cherry/raspberry with additional hints of mint, dusty earth, dried spices, tar, vanilla and cocoa. Nice long finish and noticeable (but silky) tannin structure. Concentrated and ripe. Aging nicely. Thanks for sharing Ron B! — 9 months ago

Dinner at Suraya Lebanese place first time. With Yuki and Jeff. 12 years old Dragon year proud cycle and it’s still got time to age. Beautiful balanced Chianti that evolved in glass over the dinner. Paid corkage instead of ordering from just though it did have interesting wines including from Lebanon. — 3 months ago

Medium ruby hue. Aromas and flavors of cherry, sage, tar, vanilla, and violet. Medium-plus body, with medium-plus tannins and high acidity. Lengthy finish. Meaty bouquet surprisingly similar to Northern Rhone Syrah. Rounded and plush. — a month ago

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully coy in the glass, slowly opening with a delicate blend of smoked meats, cedar dust, crushed rocks and dried strawberries. It’s soft and enveloping with silky textures, a sweet and sour interplay of mineral-tinged berries and balsamic spice hints. Fine tannins mount toward the close. This finishes youthfully tense and grippy with a bump of residual acidity to balance its saturation of primary components. The 2016 is in an odd and slightly dormant place in its evolution. This vintage of Pieve Santa Restituta is delicious. To be more specific: the best word to describe it is the English "smooth". The Polish "smooth" does not reflect the nuances. 🙂 Tannins pleasantly tighten the tongue. The acidity is perfect for me. Fleeting fruitiness on the nose, but none on the palate. Back to the nose: spices and herbs, especially thyme, some tobacco. I love the dryness of this wine. — 6 months ago
