Happy Bastille Day! Joyeux 14 juillet! 🇫🇷
A great day to sip something fabulous and French, like this 2020 Maison Joseph Drouhin Clos des Mouches. 🍷
Maison Joseph Drouhin is a dynamic, family-run estate, established by Joseph Drouhin in 1880 in the Beaune region of Burgundy. It’s now run by Joseph’s four great-grandchildren – Philippe, Véronique, Laurent, and Frédéric – with operations spanning from Burgundy to the Dundee Hills of Willamette Valley, Oregon (Domaine Drouhin). 🫶🏻🫶🏻
This wine has a medium ruby hue and an array of aromas and flavors such as strawberry, raspberry, cherry (red and black), mulberry, rose, spice, potpourri, black licorice, forest floor, toast, vanilla bean, crème brûlée, nutmeg, star anise, cardamom, and clove.
It aged 14-18 months in French oak (25% new), lending those baking spice, vanilla, and confectionery notes.
On the palate, it is dry, with vibrant acidity, creating tension, and a medium (+) body, with warming alcohol (14% ABV), medium tannins that are polished and velveteen, and a lingering finish.
This is an outstanding wine capable of long-term aging with potential to gain complexity unveiling additional tertiary dimensions over time. 🕰️ — 10 months ago

Малиновый компот. Легкое. Сочное. Базовый пино нуар. Очень хорош — 7 years ago
Always a joy to check in with Souhaut. This Syrah is in a better early drinking place, oddly enough, than the Gamay. Very pleasurable with nice tannic presence. — 8 years ago
Solid and satisfying. — 9 years ago
2008. Tart red fruits, Gevrey funk, nice acid. Still quite youthful. — 10 years ago
Meyer lemon, wet white stone, almond oil, bright citrus acidity. — 8 months ago
Pale ruby in color; candied cherries, hibiscus, and potting soil on the nose; medium acidity; low tannins; tastes raspberries, cranberries, and wet slate with a long finish. Nellie and I love it. — 9 months ago

Graham crust and hibiscus on the nose. White pepper, viennoiseries, lemon curd, and a bit of rhubarb. — 5 years ago
Well shit. Wildly expressive nose of tea, kirsch, saddle, fennel and sage. Started off too cold but with temperature increase opened up to a beautiful, elegant style CDP with cherry, blackberry, and all sorts of rustic garrigueness. A smoky, blue fruit finish. Tannins and acidity and alcohol all in perfect formation. Just awesome — 8 years ago
Big producer, but a really stellar wine. Everything you'd want in a Chablis. Got this for $5 on the clearance shelf at an Albertsons. Kudos to the wine buyer, shame on you general wine buying public. If it said Chard on the label it would have been sold long ago. — 9 years ago
Love this wine. 2012 vintage. #josephphelps biased review. — 10 years ago

Last bottle of a summer dinner- no decant. 2nd tasting of this vintage & much more expressive than the first. Throws Brett a decent amount & imagine some might prefer a substantial decant, though I like the funkiness. Fine toothed &a lovely grainy, slightly chewy texture & rather elegant; cassis, black currant, smoked beef jerky, & black cherry on palate & nose. Not complex at this stage but who needs it given the enjoyment factor. Post meal ( or probably blended into the end) of grilled BBQ chicken, French lentilsw labneh, & local tomato salad. There goes summer… — 9 months ago
Pure pleasure, vivacious, juicy, deeply textured and ripe. A completely different experience than LBT — a year ago

Loved it. Striking from the first sip. — 5 years ago
— 7 years ago
Trying the 2012. Very nice with hint of cherries. Been so used to the US Pinots of late that I missed going back to the Burgundy region. This wine is excellent. — 9 years ago
Beautiful wine blueberries and chocolate nice finish — 10 years ago

Unanimously the Belle of the bunch, this was dripping with complexity tonight. Deep garnet with some browning towards the rim. The nose is vinous with bruised, ripe and desiccated strawberry, dried flowers, mushrooms and loads of sous bois; savory. Good structure still. Long finish. Drink now. — 7 months ago
