Black pepper spice, strong tannins, slightly sweet aftertaste. Nice to pair with a Strip Steak. — 6 years ago
Still very burly and tannic. Quite minerally. Took a couple hours to reveal any hint of fruit. In the end a solid value Bordeaux that needs more time. — 8 years ago
A burly, intense wine, better on the second day, developing some notes of canned lychee or peach in syrup to go with the heavy Diesel/petrol notes dominating both nose and palate. Finish sort of drops right off, leaving a plastic/curiously blank note. Interesting but not perfect. — 8 years ago
Rad wine. Big and burly, but it wears it really well. Concentrated, fresh, and I love how it starts out with ripe fruit and finishes quite savory. — 9 years ago
Cherry cordial 17% 2011 vintage smooth up front with a burly finish — 9 years ago
2012. Meaty, smokey, burly VR. Would guess Gevery if blinded — 9 years ago
As one who LOVES Latakia pipe tobacco among his burly and as a boy I just loved those black licorice pipes that bit like browned flour, this is for me. Glorious! — 10 years ago
Ready? Imagine pudding wrestling in vanilla. And you're about to make the pin and you realize you need a glass of red. So a fan hands you a fantastic tempranillo and as you take a sip some pudding, a drop of sweat from a burly French female ref all fall into your mouth at the same time. There ya have it. Get at it!! Yeah Suckling! — 5 years ago
Wow, what a deal at < $20 / bottle
Wine spectator says #69 of top 100 of 2014.
A burly, brambly red, underscored by tarry smoke and underbrush notes, offering flavors of blackberry coulis, herb-marinated black olive, grilled mushroom and ground spice. This shows muscle that recommends it to short-term cellaring, made accessible by integration and balance. Drink now through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. #69 – 91 points — 6 years ago
This burly beast has gained weight, incredibly, since last tasting. Lots of big brambly berry fruit, firm tannin, hints of asphalt, coffee grounds, and white pepper. Balanced, but lingering. Significant bottle life ahead, but as this wine has only existed since the '04 vintage, it's hard to guess the longevity. Drink or hold. — 7 years ago
I really enjoyed this, should be getting more love on here 500 cases total better then most of the 90+ rated Chardonnays on here, lovely oak and butter full bodied — 8 years ago
Big and burly with ripe tannins baked blue fruits, and graphite minerality. Drinking better on day 2. Delicious now, but still a baby. — 8 years ago
Juicy, firm. Still burly and young but pretty tasty. Needs meat #southafrica #detoren. — 9 years ago
Monster! Blackberry liqueur, cassis, tar, iron. Strong. burly, even. #delectableapp — 9 years ago
So perfumed and amazing on the nose. Just wanted to keep smelling this wine. The palate still showed burly and young with a lot if tannic structure, even after being opened for a couple hours. Perfect example of a '95 that is just showing itself. — 10 years ago
Awesome burly spice bomb Bordeaux — 11 years ago
Revisiting this burly beast almost a year later and it’s still as it was before: terrific. Impenetrable dark crimson with a little more bricking going on. Vanilla, lavender, a good bit of oak, and blueberries on the nose. At almost eleven years old, this doesn’t remind me so much of a standard Napa Can but rather a nice Bordeaux. The heat from the alcohol has definitely settled down and is presenting some wonderful balance. There’s still some fruit here with layers of blueberries, cherries, and cranberries. Tobacco, coffee, and leather on the palate. This is a wine that’s absolutely singing right now. All hail to Last Bottle. Just like I said a year ago, powerful, ripe fruit, and great structure. — 5 years ago
These are day 2 notes. Nose has very tangy berry fruit and lots of cracked rock minerality. Lean but weighty in the mouth. Dry core of fruit and rock. A little peppery heat on the finish. Somewhat more burly than most 14s I’ve had, but still very good. — 6 years ago
Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2006
Still a baby, this is all primary fruit with gorgeous floral violets, a sweet leather note and a subtle savoriness. The palate is intense and a little less complex than the nose. Burly and intense, with wonderful acidity and firmly grained tannin this will do well with 5+ more years of bottle refinement.

Not much on the nose, but an explosion of sweet oak, honeyed peaches, smoke, and grass on the palate. Big and burly for this style, but very satisfying. — 8 years ago
80% new french oak, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Chewy chalky tannins. Deep. Nose: stewed black currant, fig. Palate: cedar, tobacco/leather, dark fruit. — 9 years ago
