Delicious brown ale + 7.2% octane which is a pleasant surprise for a typically milder style — 9 years ago
Great everyday drinking brother vs California Zin, and not so high octane at 13.6% — 9 years ago
A not toasty and high-octane but great fruit, tannins and finish. — 9 years ago
Jim G purchase. High octane and needs dilution by several drops of water. Then opens up and complex. — 9 years ago
Every now and again, a high octane CndP is called for. Nicely made for the style. Deeply plummy with baking spices and broad tannins. Slightly bitter midpalate, with a long finish. I wouldn't keep it around too much longer. — 9 years ago
The hop-head holy grail itself. A must take pilgrimage for any IPA drinker. IBUs off the charts, basically high octane hop syrup. Definitely ages incredibly well. — 10 years ago
From Clarendon Hills, this is a larger bottling, somewhat more affordable. Lovely wine, north Rhone stylistically but with Australian octane. It disappeared fast... — 10 years ago
Another slam dunk from Alsace! Liquid gold from the great -15 vintage. Nose is oily and full of liquorice, fennel, lots of tropical fruits, and chalkywet minerals; on the palate the wine is equally oily, fruity, robust, peppery and with a high-octane finish. Will keep a box for a few years. — 7 years ago
Big juicy ripe blackberries, currants, and cassis. The juiciness is balanced nicely with tapenade, sage, lavender and cured meats. Medium acidity, and lightly chalky but pleasant tannins. A little high octane but great value. — 9 years ago
oaky, sweet, high octane. Syrupy in the best way. The opposite of Bourgogne blanc — 9 years ago
Rich, big Syrah with 12% Mourvèdre. Stewed cherries with a hint of white pepper and river stones. High octane at 15.8% - glad I sat on this a while. — 9 years ago
15.5% alc, 368 cases produced.
Full of respect for their new directions and individual endeavors (read; IPOB) kudos to Pax Mahle (and Duncan Meyers) for yet another great wine from an era past.
Certainly in the "high octane-category" but still drinking amazingly well at age 13 and probably for another 3+ years.

Billy Badass ... Textbook Amarone from a monster vintage tipping the scales @ 15.65 - yeah it was high octane but the flavors were so vivid I lingered over them for hours — 9 years ago
Super ripe, huge structure, blazing acid from the durif. No stewed fruit nonsense. This is a very good example of high octane, heavy handed zin. Still showing an ability to age further. — 10 years ago
High octane high acid dry Aussie Riesling. This is the Harley Davidson of Rieslings — 10 years ago
Finally a Malbec that I can recommend to my friends. Looking for authenticity? This Malbec has it in spades. The 2010 Lauren's Vineyard from Casarena is a true delight, uber approachable, a vein of acidity keeps the abundant blueberry and blackberry fruit in check! And yes it's high octane, tho u hardly notice. But those with an overactive sensitivity to any wine over 12% will be easily repulsed by its stated 14.9% abv. — 11 years ago
Beautiful fruit, like drinking a velvet high octane jam. 2016 ftw. — 7 years ago
The Sharp Sisters red is inky purple, with a nose of big, black fruit and quite a savory side. I smell cigar box, spice rack and cedar plank on the nose, in addition to the plums and blackberries. The palate comes on less brawny that expected given the high-octane alcohol number. It's a pleasant array of black and blue fruit that is remarkably smooth, yet it's tannins are muscular enough to sit with a ribeye. — 8 years ago
Day 3: Big, black chocolate nose, with baked blackberry, black olives, and charred beef ribs charging from the glass. The floodgates have finally opened, and it was worth the wait! There is fresh cocoa bean pods and a jungle of flora; rosemary and iris extracts and an oatmeal raisin aspect to the perfuming.
Just the right texture for the pungent hothouse welcome: grippy and coarse, with a bitter chocolate and raspberry interplay, and a single unforgettable graphite and smoky slate backbone; unwavering in the churn of black currant, pepper, eucalyptus, leather and tobacco. Léoville Poyferré's high octane new world Malbec that puts a LOT of stick about! It also has an elegance, as all good dominatrixes should! You'll get a kick out of this! #LéovillePoyferré #bordeauxandburgers #argentinawine #Argentina #malbec #malbecmalbec #newworldmeetsoldworld #CuvelierLosAndes #andes #grandmalbec #ucovalley #uco #mendoza — 8 years ago
I made a comment about "high-octane fuel" a little earlier, and based on the aromatics, prototypically, this is it.
Aromas of syrop du cassis, rich black fruits and anise prepare the palette for what is to come. The experience in the mouth does not disappoint. It's plump with a luscious mouthfeel. Not overly done. It's heavily extracted, but still presents harmoniously with bright acidity, tannins that fight back and 14.8% abv. Hints of coffee, jam compote and nutmeg finish with power, yet subtlety.
This is my first taste of their cab, and PM have again jammed a quart into a pint pot.
On a different topic, America, please join the rest of the progressive nations and use the metric system. There, I feel better already.

Aromas of cherries and earth, with just a touch of smoke. Tart, mouthwatering cherry and raspberry flavors with pepper and bay leaf. Excellent terroir and fruit expressions without the high octane of many Priorats (this label states a modest 13.5% abv). This wine is a refreshing, balanced, and food-friendly delight, with a long, fruity, and minerally finish. — 9 years ago
Super clean and crisp. A high octane kick on the very finish, but not appalling. Way better than most american made high end vodkas for higher cost. — 10 years ago
Strong aromas of cherry, licorice, and cured meats. Nice chalk and slight pepper. Great mineral driven, but all is haunted by a perceived alcohol. Even thought it may not rank with CA octane, it just seems to unbalance everything. — 11 years ago
Anthony Marocco
Racey acidity with spicy tropical fruit, a bit high octane so a couple glasses...forgettaboutit! Great summer closer, like Kimbrel in the 9th! — 7 years ago
