Didn’t get to decant and out of wine fridge .. wine was v tight . Needed a bit of air for sure . Dry and big ! — 7 months ago
Deep purple in color; plums, black cherries, and oak on the nose; high acidity; high tannins; a little hot; tastes like black plums, licorice (I think), and blackberry jam with a long peppery finish. Nellie likes it. I do too, but it's more fruit forward than what I prefer lately, but very good — 8 months ago
Deep ruby coloration. On the nose, plum, black currant, black olives, cedar. On the palate, black currant, cherry, raspberry, pepper, earth, oak and vanilla. Full bodied, rich mouthfeel, medium finish. — 4 years ago
Sweet cherry and cola center with little acid to hold up the weight. — 8 years ago
Great all around red. Very dependable. — 8 years ago
1995 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 1 hour. Still, big nose and frontal palate. Dwindles somewhat in the closing chapters. Fairly harmonious and alive for the majority of another decade. Feel there could be some bottle variation here so wouldn’t surprise me if someone posted a 9.2-9.4 tomorrow. S’life. 9.20.23. — 8 months ago
A little thin at first, but then got going after an hour or so being opened — 2 years ago
Decanted and really opened up in little more than half an hour. 54 years and still has vitality. There’s still some fruit but it is mixed with subtle acidity and soft tannins. A delight to drink and share with friends. Our friend was given the wine and wanted to share it. We all were quite happy.👍🍷🍷 — 3 years ago
1982 vintage. Color still fairly youthful. Meniscus not too wide/watery. Brickish, minty nose with big cedar & baking chocolate flavors. Holding up better than expected for a fruity vintage. — 7 years ago
A big fruit, oak bomb. Once it opened up it was quite nice. Getting better with age. — 7 years ago
Oaky, but not too much, very full flavor with a velvet finish. A little bit of pecan, and a tart cherry flavor. VERY good. — 8 years ago
Very big Pinot — 8 years ago
Yummy! Smooth and full. — 10 years ago
It's still a puppy and needed a good amount to open up. From start to finish one of the best American Pinots I've had. Elegant and complex, red fruit and a lot of earth notes. — 10 years ago
This wine is quite young and at this stage is mainly showing off a heavy hand with oak. Fruit will emerge over time - black currant, black cherry, black plum, blackberry and violet are struggling against the heavy oak to come out. This is a high extraction wine, to my palate a little ponderous and out of balance but many will love the wine’s brawny appeal. — 7 months ago
So ripe and big. Goes better with dessert than the meal. Huge vanilla oak with sweet berry jam, there is mint dark chocolate, and tannin, cedar on the finish. Overall when I really think about it, this tastes interesting, but there is a sweetness throughout the entire palate that I do not love. There’s an artificial sweetener like flavor. Really interesting. Decanted for 4 hours. — 8 months ago
Good, didn’t get the hype train, a little over extracted maybe for me and all up on the front — 9 months ago
A great drinking wine on its own- wouldn’t say it flourishes with food. Super dry, big, bold, mouth full. — 3 years ago
Tasted blind. Tawny color, translucent with amber rims. Notes of black cherry, cedar, some spice and a little barnyard floor. Sweet fruit in the mouth, with tannins fully resolved. Guessed 1955 Calon Segur. Perfect looking bottle, the cork revealed this bottle was reconditioned by the Chateau in 2000. — 5 years ago
Great big can of cherry pie filling. Better the next day. — 7 years ago
Spectacular! Mind blowing. One of my top 10 of all time. On every serious wine lover’s bucket list, and here we had a nigh perfect bottle. While aromatically a little recalcitrant, you still got some of the Margaux violets and potpourri on the nose, hints of clove, all trying to shake off their doldrums. But on the palate, it was timelessly ravishing. The finesse, richness, balance and smoothness, with an underlying, almost flabbergasting mixture of complexity and delicacy, was just astonishing. The finish is marvelously sweet and intense, with chocolate and cassis and utterly seamless tannins. This is a miracle of wine making and an exaltation of vintage and terroir besides. Wow! And bravo! We can only pray for an encore of such a wine. — 8 years ago
