The stage was set. Pontet Canet in the left corner, Leonetti reserve in the right corner. Leonetti came in strong, intense, rich, powerful with strong dry blue berry, dark cherry fruit and a well integrated tannins with hints of oak and tobacco. Broad on the pallet, all in. Who won? Started out all berries and shaved chocolate and opened up beautifully....then really clamped down a bit after a couple hours...killer wine just starting to show some age notes but leave it alone still....really nice next to the 2004 Pontet Canet. — 9 years ago

Ideal maturity! Like Pontet-Canet and Leoville-Barton, Gruaud made a better 1994 than the more famous 1995 & 1996. This isn't just good for an off year- with prime rib it is great cassis loaded, medium bodied, vibrant claret. — 9 years ago
