This is a sneaky little wine. Mint and leather on the nose, but not in high degree. Dried cherries on the front, but not enough of those flavors to make it fruit forward. A light to medium tannic structure that is neither puckery nor velvety. Ending with lingering soft high notes. At first I wasn’t really paying attention to its unpretentiousness, but then I realized that every landmark in my mouth was pleased and smiling. It’s like one of those subtle Grand Cru Bordeauxs that, once every decade or so, give us something brilliant and memorable. Well, after that spiel, I should probably give it a 10.0, but I’ve never tasted a 10.0 — so I’m giving it a 9.8. I can’t think that I’ve given anything more than 9.6. So take it from me that this is a pretty fooking great wine! — 5 years ago

Open for about 5 hours, no decant... Masculine nose, yet pretty at the same time. Tobacco, plum, cassis, leather, dark chocolate, and espresso. Beautiful balance, with perfectly ripe, farmers market plum and blackberry. Layers of mocha and tobacco carry throughout. Tannins are integrated and show restraint. There is a creamy, milky chocolate midpalate which transitions to a rich, yet still ripe, dark fruit finish. Green pepper creeps through on the backend. Deep core of fruit, but don’t be misled this could easily pass for right bank, think Saint Estephe. Paired perfectly with cold smoked New York strip steak.. wish I had more of this one, drink or hold. 43% Cab Sav, 37% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc — 4 years ago

This stunning Grenache was sourced from Monette's Vineyard in the Walla Walla Rocks region. Prior to bottling the wine was left on the lees for 18 months in neutral French oak barriques. This wine begins with aromatics of rose petals, white flowers, Mandarin orange rind and potpourri. This leads to flavors of red cherry, strawberry, orange zest and strawberry jam. This is pretty, downright sexy wine and absolutely irresistible at this juncture. While less acid-driven than the ’14 bottling, this outstanding wine is just as good and even more impossible to put down as the gorgeous aromatic and flavor range shines through. Only 103 cases made of this absolutely stunning Grenache, which is one of the best of its kind in Washington state. Drink 2019-2029- 95 — 5 years ago

This wine is their tribute to Rioja. So, they called this one "Tilting at Windmills"; which is a reference to Don Quixote. Tilting at Windmills is a blend of; 69% Grenache, 19% Syrah & 18% Cabernet. 40% new oak and 60% neutral. This wine was not racked and stayed on its lees until bottled. On the nose, minty, florals and soft fruits of; blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, touch of rich dark, earth and dark fresh florals. The palate matches everything in the nose but add strawberries. The body is M & the tannins are M+. Mint really shines on the long finish. The acidity is soft, gentle and mouthwatering. The finish is; long, leaner in body & beautifully elegant. — 7 years ago

Nice set of four Vacqueuras 60/40 Grenache/Syrah blends from Henri Bungener at RawWine LA, represented by the Carmin Brillant here. Each of the four are the same blend but each from a different part of the Vineyard slope with different soil/geologic features. The Fruit Sauvage bottling was a 9.2 and went very well with Soft Pretzel and Sausage sampler at Tabula Rasa. — 7 years ago

The Composer is a 100% Riesling and spent 18 month on fine lees in neutral oak barrels. On the nose; tropicals, cream, citrus, gentle spice and white & yellow lilies. On the palate, lemon meringue, apple, pear, tropicals, citrus blend, guava, honeycomb, peach, leehies, very light petrol, white & yellow lilies & nicely rounded acid with a rich, polished finish.
