Poggio al Tufo is a relatively new estate in the once swampy Maremma in coastal Tuscany. Tommasi, of Amarone fame planted vineyards here in 1997. The Alicante Bouschet grape is new to Tuscany, although getting more popular. This wine is a deep purple in the glass , delivering pepper, black fruits and smoke to the palate. Tannins are still a little harsh so this will benefit from another year or two in the bottle. Interesting wine from this interesting grape.

#casasilia #poggioalsole - un grande prodotto dal cuore del chianti, naso e bocca veramente toscaneggianti ! — 11 years ago
Quite good. Unique nose of bright cherry and leather as you would expect but strawberries, a touch of menthol, skittles. On the palate the bright acidity with a pleasant, refreshing finish on the mid palate. A good amount of tannins and body to provide interest. — 8 years ago
Used it for Braised Chicken, Bacon and Tomato...amazing!
