Malbec semillon rose. Great wine. Light a less sweet. Great experience! — 8 years ago
Super pretty Langhe Nebbiolo. All fruit is from Castiglione Falletto in Barolo but they don't age it as long and the winemaking is a bit different than DOCG guidelines call for. Fermentation in stainless and elevage in the traditional neutral Slavonian oak botti. Pours a pale ruby-garnet hue. Nose of slightly dried sour cherry, potpourri and rose + violet floral tones, new asphalt, slightly volatile balsamic character, and a slight fennel-spiced cured meat note. Palate confirms the nose with the fruit showing a bit more prominently on the palate. Acid is screaming and tannin is firm with moderate (+) intensity yet already decently fine grained and caressing, this could honesty probably do well from a couple more years in bottle. Medium (-) body but still has some layered texture to it. Couldn't go wrong with this and a hearty baked pasta dish. Very tasty and a great value for Piedmont Nebbiolo of decent quality. — 8 years ago

— 10 years ago
Light to medium bodied. Rich and complex -- very earthy wine plus some raspberry and cherry and some almost tar/smoke. And roses. Also the smell of good quality, cloudy honey. Very interesting. Tannins are soft after 11 years, but still there. Medium finish. — 10 years ago

Authentic, lush & stupendous red by Russo-Swiss winery of Marina & Renaud Burnier - indigenous Krasnostop, aged 18 months in oak barrels.
Deep inky purple, dark carmine rim. Refined legs.
Constantly evolving nose: mulberry, saskatoon, sweet spices, black pepper, licorice, blueberry, black currant leaf, raspberry, flowers... chocolate.
Medium-plus body, well-structured and balanced. Mulberry, chokeberry, thorns, huckleberry, cocoa, raspberry, black cherry.
Lingering finish.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ivo Jeramaz on my last visit to Napa Valley. He's the nephew of winemaking legend, Mike Grgich and has taken the lead in much of the wineries day-to-day operations along with Mike's daughter, Violet. Ivo is a quiet and thoughtful in his speech—and his wines seem to reflect this. The 2012 Merlot is carmine-hued, and is more transparent than most Merlot I've encountered from Napa Valley. It possesses a kind of quiet restraint and lovely finesse with nuanced aromas of red currant, pie cherries, dried herbs and underbrush intertwining fine tannins a tart acidity. 14.0% ABV | Sample

Garnet/carmine deep color. Aromas of over ripe red fruits, like raisins, and dried plum, smoked paprika. Full body, silky tannins, very powerful, intense, fresh, long aftertaste. How great is NOT to be disappointed by wine? Excellent. — 10 years ago
Nice smoky nose with dried tobacco, peanut oil, iodine, mint and eucalyptus. In the mouth the tannin and acid is still youthful with crisp red apple skin and a hint of grandma's attic peaking thru the finish. — 10 years ago

Impressive, lush, splendid Serbian Vranac Potrkanjski, aged 12 months in barriques. Best I ever had!
Brilliant garnet to purple color, carmine rim.
Expressive aromas of raspberry, cardamom, then vanilla, prunes, black currant, blackberry, wild vetch, cloves...
Very juicy berry-driven medium-bodied palate of perfect balance. Flavors of raspberry, black currant, cranberry, cherry, huckleberry, black gooseberry. Gentle oak touch.
Finishes persistently by juicy forest/garden berries with vanilla.

In 2006 Campari stopped using Carmine, a dye from crushed Cochineal beetles, to get their signature colour and started using artificial dyes. Nice to find a killer, natural alternative. Once you've had a Gran Negroni there is no turning back! — 9 years ago

Produced by a very small vineyard in Avondale, PA (yes, Pennsylvania!) this is an indulgent estate grown dry Rosato with depth and a lingering dry finish. Limited production. Excellent pairing with cheese and charcuterie. — 10 years ago

Carmine color with aromatic incense, mixed berry, baked cherry, brown sugar and cedarwood aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and well structured with a supple texture and wonderful acidity. It shows blackberry, blueberry, red and red currant flavors. Medium-long finish. Co-fermented with 5% Vioginer. — 11 years ago
