Day 3 in Napa in the books! Running a day behind on notes...Napa time runs slow AND fast!
Ashes & Diamonds...blast from the past! Retro style. Son of Darioush is the owner here. Open until 7PM...definitely aiming towards us Millennials. This was their most left bank Bordeaux-style wine. Loads of red & black underripe fruit with mushroom, truffle oil, plum, and cigar smoke. Smooth yet structured. All of their wines are definitely a throw back to a different era. — 6 years ago
At the age of 15 years, this Shiraz is nectar of the Gods: intense fruit... magnificent. I’m decanting it several hours before a dinner of Rehspfeffer... mmmmmm — 7 years ago
Nice with grilled lamb chops. Yes, we use our grill in December here in Buffalo, NY. — 3 years ago
Very yummy Mediterranean family style lunch from Ashes & Diamonds chef, wines are restrained and just OK... nice pours with the lunch though!!!!

Great, zippy wine! Beautiful color. Lots of acid. Enjoyed with Alanna and Mom, shrimp eggplant stacks and roasted veg. Would be a great sushi wine though. — 6 years ago
All delicious but the grand vin no 3 was the standout for me — 4 years ago
Needs plenty of time to open. Kept getting better throughout the meal. — 5 years ago

On pop & pour, nose is a mix of older red fruit, earth, tobacco. It's transitioning to a mature wine, in spite of being stored in a back bedroom for 5 years.
7 min in glass, and the entry is warm, earthy, and gritty at first. Very high mid palate. Super long finish. Longer than I would expect of a merlot. Picking up some green notes, like stems of rosemary or thyme. But not piney!
I think this is getting better with age. Probably in its prime right now. — 7 years ago

A great wine. Food yeah! On its own during a sunny Friday afternoon, yep! It's gently sweet but you won't feel like you're having candy. It's enough that makes it slightly heavy on the tongue and easily enjoyable. If you like Riesling this is fantastic! Go Austria!
Color: Pale light yellow like those office sticky note rip offs. But this pale color signals refreshing like a light wine diamonds, not cheap office supplies.
Aroma: It smells juicy, fresh fruit sweet like a Riesling. It smells like peach, apricot, honey lemonade but not too sweet. Like a refreshing cooler that you would have on the beach. Just enough sweetness to counter a tan but not anywhere near enough you'll be attracting bees or feel like a kid in the candy shop. It smells delicious!
Taste: It tastes like a lighter Riesling. It had some sweetness and weight that clings to the tongue. So I would say its light to medium body. It has a honey lemon and peach taste like when you smell. Yep just enough sweetness to fein off the tang or alcoholic taste but definitely not a sweet wine. — 3 years ago
