Pretty fun purple sparkle juice with a prickle and a floral dusty spicy prettiness that delights rather than distracts from its exuberance. — 7 years ago
First time with a Jean Francois Ganevat
Quite mind-boggling
There is an intensity with few precedents
Purity and density
From pear and vanilla topping to honey, marzipan, persimmoms, lemon curd...
Ginger and cinnamon
A bunch of mixed herbs
So mineral, so rocky
In balance with loads of tension like a bow ready to release a searing arrow
Long and unforgettable
Never had anything like it before and i si sincerely hope to meet it again
Chapeau...happy to be able to get taken aback still...knowing that there is so much more in the world...another happy acknowledgement 😊
Not to underestimate Tony and Bill, the couple in the background 🙏 — 3 years ago
— 7 years ago
Quite intriguing, not a style of winemaking I reach for often, but an example of it done well. Minimal extraction and no SO2 with the allure and charm this has can be quite difficult. It’s a little skanky upon first opening, but after a night in the bottle it cleaned up considerably, the brett and VA melted into the wine a little more and its muddled melange of red fruit and earth became apparent. Crushed rainer cherry, decaying strawberries, rhubarb compote, white pepper, sweaty brett. I like blurring the lines between light red and rosé, and the wine worked well with roast chicken w/ spices and poblano mashers night one and fared well with tomato/avocado salad and grilled sardines the next night. That versatility at the table was impressive. — 5 years ago
My husband and I first tried this winemaker at Caves Madeleine, our favorite restaurant in Burgundy. I believe it was also this first time I had heard about Jura. We’ve since fallen in love with these wines and Jean Francois Ganevat in particular. This excellent old vine Chardonnay has notes of melon rind, honey and citrus and good minerality as well as a mouth coating richness. — 7 years ago
