Overshadowed by the ‘88 in just about every category. The ‘89 was solid but lacked verve. Both the ‘88 and ‘89 were contributed by @Shawn R and most of the bubblies were sabered off in to the Texas night by an engraved saber from @Joe Lucca to @Shawn R . No armadillos were harmed or threatened by the flying corks. — 7 years ago
Suprised by how much I liked it. Excellent. — 8 years ago
From the wine list at EMP bought by a new friend at the table next to us to go mano a mano against the 88 La Turque I shared. Slightly darker red and more pure in color. Amazing aroma that is more linear than the animalistic La La but in the same league. Hit its stride right out of the pop and pour gate. Lovely perfume with a more briary nose but speaks Cote Rotie from the get go. Perfectly integrated fruit and structure. Best Jamet I've had. Thanks to Danny for this treat. — 9 years ago

My favorite from a vertical of 86, 88, 93, 95, 97 from Mag, 02 and 04. Personality in spades. — 12 years ago
Good dessert wine! — 13 years ago
Some slight Brett on the nose but still very drinkable. This was much better put together than the 88 — 6 years ago
Smooth with hints of caramel, coffee and oak — 7 years ago
Wonderful evening at the City Club courtesy of Jeff’s hosting at the Friday group. Cellar guessing Jeff is a dangerous game as he’s the type who plans to throw curveballs! All wines served blind.
Ageless. Based on color, I immediately thought Napa but the palate had me second guessing. Some rose petal, spice and tart cherry. Cedar. This tastes so much younger than the ‘88 I opened a few months back. Wonderful wines. — 7 years ago

Smells and tastes like peaches. Dry and flavorful. Good acidity. Well balanced. — 9 years ago
Kano, you are such a tough grader! It's '88 La Mish, and it was the first thing I'd ever tasted after becoming a new home owner. Absolutely delicious, amongst the sweetest nectar I'd ever enjoyed in my life! Far from perfect, but pretty close to one of the finest gifts life can offer. Thank you! — 10 years ago
Really nice Barbera. Good balance between alcohol and fruit. Would pair well with pork BBQ or even a spicy shrimp. — 11 years ago
Wow. Delicious. Much richer and new world in style than the 88 which was tasted in conjunction. — 12 years ago

This little joe I had when I was faded, it tastes good but would be better with steak & potatoes... ya boiiii is faded — 7 years ago
Deep notes of raspberry, blackberry and plum with leather. Wonderful warm finish that is balanced and fruitful. — 7 years ago
What a color! I’ve been fortunate to have an ‘87 and ‘88 (a bottle from my cellar three months ago) and both were knockouts. Color here could be confused for a 10-12yr old wine. Incredibly dark and pure in the glass! Licorice, cassis, and some tobacco on the nose. As it opened, more tobacco leaf type notes came through. No signs of decline after 1hr+ of being open. Reinforced my thought of only enjoying Montelena Wines after 15+yrs. What a pull by @Mark Flesher ! — 7 years ago

Super rich. Spends a full extra year in barrel. Semillon and SB. The nose is perfumed with honeysuckle, orange blossom, crystallized honey, and apricot. The palate is dense with mandarin, beeswax, roasted nuts, dried apricot, Meyer lemon, and some petrol. Really nice. — 9 years ago
Smooth. Drank at BP. $88 — 9 years ago
One of my favorite Grenache wines this year. — 10 years ago

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of eating out in Chicago on the river and enjoyed this 2017 Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot. From Napa Valley this blend is 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec. Everything is all outside, no dining in and social distancing is a must, though masks are optional out doors and waitstaff has to wear the masks.
On the nose was black cherry, raspberry, black plums, tobacco, chocolate, rose petals and dusty earth.
On the palate there is beautiful fruit, black cherry, black plum, raspberry, cocoa, licorice, red currant, vanilla, spice and dusty earth.
The wine is medium to full bodied that has a creamy, silky smooth mouth feel with medium to medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that leads into a long fresh fruit finish. A very enjoyable bottle of wine that went very well with my NY Strip. I hope everyone is well and healthy? Please stay safe and continued health. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 years ago
