The 2014 is robust but smooth. It has fight like Donald Trump even when the outlook isn’t bright. Definitely recommend. — 6 years ago
Solid crisp Chardonnay. Great on a warm evening as a stand alone glass of wine. — 8 years ago
Fantastic wine in the style of an Amarone. Exceptional at its price point. Big, flavorful and in its junior, possibly senior year. Certainly not sophomoric. — 5 years ago
Decent Barolo. Definitely taste the citrus here which adds a little freshness to round red wine. — 8 years ago
Great little Pinot noir. Fantastic find for $14. Keep it on hand for a simple table wine. — 4 years ago
Fantastic 1.5L. Didn’t expect that. Everyone enjoyed. A little thin but that’s the style. — 5 years ago
Great little Pinot. Delicate but big enough to go with some red meat. Solid choice for the average Pinot lover. — 8 years ago

Las Almenas Tempranillo is a seriously enjoyable Spanish red that drinks with confidence well beyond its price point. It opens bright and lively, with fresh red fruit and a youthful energy, but there is enough body here to keep it grounded. This is not a thin or forgettable wine. It has direction.
It feels like a wine in its junior year: self-assured, promising, and already very good company. It knows where it is going, even if it has not fully arrived. That is part of the charm. It is at that sweet spot in life where its brightness is still intact, but its fuller character is starting to show.
There is an easy drinkability here that makes Tempranillo such an underrated grape when it is done right. Juicy, balanced, and expressive, this is another winner from Spain and a reminder that great pleasure in wine does not have to come with pretension. — a month ago
