Exuberant nose. Cassis, olive, meat, berry fruit. Complex and initially funky but it gets so pretty after air. Spice. Limestone imprint. Palate is concentrated, intense and so pure. Juicy, playful, complex and tense. Elegant and so balanced. Such a greet mar Syrah. Just nothing else like it. My score will go up with air.

Got so deep and rich overnight. 9.3 to 9.4. So good and such an undervalued wine at Ziereisen.

If you like syrah this is a unique and very well made expression from an unexpected place and one of the top winemakers in Germany. A totally different Syrah experience from a winemaker as talented as the big boys in the Rhône. This is an entry level under $30 wine that “competes” with crozes hermitage.

Needs a decant to show. Maybe an hour.

Nose Has freshly cut mountain grass. Bright cherries.

Palate is so ziereisen. Medium colored. So precise. More rippingly fresh mid season cherries than what you’d expect from syrah. So fresh. Piercing but not overdone acidity. So clean. Some of the freshest fruit I’ve ever tasted on a wine. Elite levels of precision.

As this opens the deliciousness sneaks up on you. A hint of licorice. More supple cherries. More explosive.

Savory clean finish.

Bought from fass selections. Stunning precision.

The only German Syrah I've ever tried is one I won't forget. So unnaproachable at first, a stone cold snub, dark like motor oil.

Meaty blood soaked liver, mint snuff, graphite, pencil shavings. Huge tannins to break down.

But find those little Syrah nuggets - metallic minerals and the tiniest bit of violet, and you realize there's something special here. It just takes a second to understand.

It’s the Ziereisen code - crack a thick outer shell, find a familiar friend.
