This is silly - funky natty pet-nat rose from right here in Texas. Loads of raspberry, mulled berries, spice, and cream. Delicious and gulpable. Off-dry. I’ll tell ya what - this is the first Texan winery to really turn my head and catch my attention.. their whole lineup was solid. Definitely worth checking out, but this was the star.

The William Chris pet nat is a blend of six grapes, all from either the high plains of Texas or from the Central Texas Hill country (where I live). A unique mix of merlot, Mourvèdre, and Malbec make up 75% of the blend. It is the color of pink lemonade with aromas of wheated raspberry, blood orange, and grapefruit. Balanced flavors of yeast, strawberry, celery, and Asian pear come together very nicely with light bitter citrus fruits on the finish.

You wouldn’t call this funky natural nor traditional old world pet nat. It’s a wine of no template or category - wild like the Texas frontier.

Watch out for the volatility. Open very very cold and have a glass hardy. This is a gunslinger wine. Very pretty salmon pink color. Aromas of raspberries, blood orange, mint, and sour dough. Flavors of red berries and watermelon candy with yeasty undertones and a bitter orange finish. A great representation of what Texas wine can be. Drinkable but also relevant.
