A leaky cork is always a stomach tightening event, unless… the wine is a German Riesling. I can’t tell you how many seeping, spongy corks have given way to reveal fresh-as-a-daisy wines for me over the years. This number from Schloss Schönborn was a perfect example. It was still greenish gold with incredible honeysuckle and wet pavement aromas, crystalline flavors of Asian pear, mandarin orange and honeysuckle. Zippy acidity, moderate sweetness, just everything you want from this genre. Would be all but impossible to peg at 17 years old if tasted blind.

Lovely balance between petrol and Asian pear and citrus fruit. Moderately sweet (7.5% alc) and rich with a crackling stony underbelly.

So delicious! Held up so nicely. Wonderfully balanced with great acidity and structure. Honey and floral. Very refreshing!

In a nice spot with a great mix of effervescent fruits, stones, flowers, acidity and the kiss of sweetness.

Still young but starting to change ever so slightly. Still prickly/effervescent. Hold

Drinking very young with lots of potential ahead. On the drier side of Spätlese. I would give this one a few more years.

Very bright light golden color, medium viscosity. Nose is subdued, with faint honey, white flowers, sweet apples. Palette sees lots of sweetness, ripe golden apples, apple juice, there is still some acid here! (medium-), residual sugar, medium+ mouthfeel. This has aged nicely and the low abv (<7.5%) makes this very drinkable.
