Popped and poured; consumed over 5 hours. Brilliant garnet color. Initially, this was painfully primary: smelled and tasted like cherry flavored Robitussin. After an hour, it had transformed into a completely different experience. Still quite primary but the ‘Tussin was replaced with red rope licorice and red plums. After hour four, this was utterly captivating. It had gained some weight and showed an abundance of mixed forest fruits with whiffs of gym sock, and garrigue. Tannins are stiff by CdP standards and the acid makes for a rather protracted finish. This is really a stunning wine after ample air. Drink after a lengthy decant or hold until after 2020.
