Barossa Valley Alicante Bouchet
Barossa Valley, Barossa, South Australia, Australia
A rare Canadian siting of this gem. Deep colour is matched by intensity, while still refreshing and not overblown. Probably the closest comparison I can think of is a Bordeaux clairet.

This Alicante Bouschet grape comes from Languedoc, France. I believe it is the only grape to contain red juice inside. As most you may already know, red grapes have white juice inside and need skin contact during fermentation to draw out the wines red color. On the nose, light red fruits, roses, and not quite the Gamay bubble gum quality but it's close. The palate shows; bright raspberries, strawberries, cherries, bubble gum, soft, powdery chalkiness, high acidity but not overpowering, red roses and red florals for days. It's; bright, fresh, semisweet and delicious.

Paired with Huon Ocean Trout Carpaccio.
The jury is still out on this one.
This wine has a large cult following but unsure if I'm riding that bandwagon.
