Showing perfectly now. Floral nose, great structure and red cherry, clove and spice. Tannis not very distinctive but freshness and acidity on the finish.

This was one of the only 2005s that I did not like on release. It had a very strange bitterness to it, almost a chemical taste. Happily, it is in much better shape now. It still starts out with a hint of bitterness, but not in an offputting sense now as it's instead more of a stemmy or green peppery streak that eventually manages to get absorbed into the wine. Then the fruit is really saturating and pure, dark blue/black flavors with the intensity of a new release with an earthiness underneath that reminds me of some of the young Oregon wines we were tasting on vacation this year. It's another reminder of just how distinctive the 2005 vintage is in Burgundy, eight years out and still amazingly primary. Of course this particular wine has developed a lot, and for the better, but if I hadn't had it way back when I'd have assumed this hadn't budged.
