Mas Jullien ‘Les Depierre’ 1995 (Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault). Utterly spellbinding. This puts any doubt about the potential quality for Languedoc wines to rest. An intoxicating yet delicate nose of redcurrant, blackberry, and graphite, with hints of smoke, paprika, and liquorice at the very end (not unlike a Barca Velha opened recently). Gorgeous palate; still tannic, with great acidity. Very long and with a clear sense that it has just come intimista own. A shame most of these bottles will have been opened a long time ago...
