"Le Pavillon" Ermitage Syrah

1999 vintage. One of the most famous (H)Ermitage wines and it is great indeed. Blackberry fruit, spices and leather in the nose that is still holding back. Needs time to breathe. Intense and layered with still a lot of black fruit, fresh acidity and a powerful structure of very ripe tannin. Very long fresh spicy finish. Excellent (which it should be at a 200 euros price tag).

So much olive, meat, beef jerky to this. Don’t pop and pour this, you’ll miss out. The red fruit alongside the secondary notes here balance everything out. Lots of non-fruit driven notes like spices.

From magnum. This was tight and muscular for a good hour or two. Eventually gave way to more fruit later on. Plenty of minerals and earth tones.

Solid tannic closed wine. Needs time to open. No finish or nose. Restrained palate now.

Simply amazing!!! This wine has gobs of acid and tannin to lend the savory black fruit character the structure it need to age another 20 years!

Good but not great. A little disjointed. Perhaps time will bring it together.

Delicious Syrah. Super intense and concentrated even after all this time. I dont drink anywhere near enough of this to really say but I think it is p re etty unique in its flavor profile. I bet if you drank enough to be familiar that there is nothing else quite like it. Wine of the evening on an evening where there were lots of great wines.

Magnum madness. Gotta love it.

Another gorgeous Hermitage wine- beautiful balance, beefy body, integrating tannins w nice acidity. Loved this wine.
