The 2005 Millésime Gold Label is a very pretty wine. Silky, perfumed and gracious on the palate, the 2005 is impeccably balanced. Soft curves make the 2005 easy to drink now. Moreover, the 2005 doesn’t have any of the odd mushroomy flavors or advanced notes that are typical of so many 2005s. This is a very pretty, supple style for a wine made with no malolactic fermentation. The 2005 remains fresh and light on its feet, with an exotic floral top note that lingers on the finish. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2018)

It was travellingcorkscrew.com.au’s 8th year anniversary this week. To celebrate Mr Spittoon and I cracked into this Lanson Gold Label 2005 Champagne we picked up for $70.

In the glass it’s a lovely golden shade with plentiful dancing bubbles 💃. The nose is rather toasty with zesty citrusy and a whiff of anise and spice. In the mouth it has a smooth rich flavour with spiced citrus tarts and notes of banana passionfruit. Brilliant value for money 🙌

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

2005 Lanson Gold Label Brut. Very nice drinking. Very soft smooth floral and nice finish. I’d like to get more.

Toast, brioche, yeast. Hints of peach/apricot? The ones I like.

2005 vintage in magnum. Delicate green apple nose. More baked apple in the mouth. Acidity is over-bearing for me. Citric finish. Bit simple.
