Popped and poured; see my notes from 2017. For real, not much has changed save for the gentle integration of more secondary characteristics. The 2005 “La Pèira” continues to be quite the charmer. A mix of ripe, dried and desiccated dark fruits, tobacco, leather, earth, and warm spices. Tannins are completely integrated. A wonderfully balanced wine and while I would recommend to drink now, it should continue to drink well throughout the remainder of the decade.

Slow-ox for 30 minutes. Poured into Riedel Brodeaux Grand Cru glasses. This bottle, on this night, was stunning. Powerful aromas of dark fruits, grilled meat, flowers, leather, tobacco and sous bois. On the palate it was dark cherries and currants with some secondary characteristics of leather creeping in...but overall pretty fresh if you ask me. Tannins were still pretty firm but more relaxed than they were even a few years ago. Acid enough to give it some lift. Wonderful structure here and while there's more than enough character for it to be enjoyed on its own, it's killer with our bone-in rib-eyes. Finish lasts for over 30 seconds. This is by far the most multifaceted wine I've had from the Languedoc and, frankly, to my palate one of the best wines I've had in recent memory. Bravo. One more bottle left in the cellar and while I'm in no particular hurry to drink it, I know it's going to be open for business when I do. Drink or Hold until 2025 (possibly longer).
