Poured into a decanter directly before service and enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2012 Estate Cuvée pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of mostly ripe, and some desiccated, red and black fruit: blackberry, black plum, crème de cassis, dried red and purple flowers, pipe tobacco, leather, varnish, a mix of organic and inorganic earth and some soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Drink now through 2032.

The 2012 Kapcsandy 'Estate Cuvée' begins with striking aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, spring florals, graphite and crushed stones all emerging beautifully from the glass. On the palate this displays wonderful elegance and precision. It continues to impress with remarkable overall structure, balance and purity of fruit, all leading up to the long, graceful finish that lingers effortlessly. A total beauty from Kapcsandy, which will thrive in the cellar for many years.

Needed 2 hours to open. Spine of Cabernet, suave of Merlot. Really well balanced. Nose is pretty, lots going on, hard to pin down, partly because I just want to enjoy it instead of concentrate on it. BlackBerry, blueberry, currant, dust , graphite, allspice. Tannins end smoothly, but with a healthy pucker. There’s iodine at the end, but not offputting. Awesome now. Probably should wait a while to open. Have one more bottle, hope I can.
