Imesch
Valais Cornalin

An excellent red based on the local cornalin grape, this wine strikes me as a hypothetical blend between grenache and gamay (I know that sounds strange!). Beautiful purple-red color, the nose really pops with bright red and blue fruit aromatics. More high notes than low notes (hence the grenache analogy rather than syrah), the wine has an interesting flavor profile. Not one to age - the tannins are sweet but not very present - the wine seems to be built for near-term consumption. Went great with the lamb dish served at this terrific restaurant in the market district of the old part of Basel, Switzerland.
