From my father’s cellar, was decanted for around 5 or so hours. I believe the Mackenzie is the top wine coming out of the Hartenberg Estate, I have had quite a bit of luck with their older wines (1998 Merlot) and was very excited to try this 12 year old out! The color is bright red and very clear with of course a little sediment. Within the nose there are quite a few interesting notes. Lots of green pepper with hints of peppercorn, petrol, start of olives, chalk and some very interesting smokiness. On the palate there are notes of dark fruit with a drying finish. There are moderate plus tannins with a full powerful body, especially for this 'youngling'. With the finish it pinches the back of the throat and tongue. Overall a great wine that I am surprised it still has as much power as it still has. I agree with my dad (cab blends) that this is at a perfect place right now and if you have it that you will not regret diving into it now!
