Conterno's 2015 Barbera d'Alba Cerretta is much more expressive today than the Francia. A broad, ample wine, the 2015 is beautifully resonant on the palate, with all of the expansiveness that is so typical of this site. Next to the Francia, the Cerretta is a bit more overt and forthcoming, two qualities that are exactly what makes Barbera so compelling in the first place. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018)

After a couple of days of being exposed to so much over ripe and over extracted barbera, it’s nice to be able to have something like this. Restrained and elegant. Acid, structure, fruit more savory than sweet. Brilliant!

Approachable with just a few years on it, much more complex and layered for what one would expect from a Barbera....but then again, this is Conterno.

What a lovely accompaniment to Roman Risotto with robiolo and nettles and veal cheek pasta packets on a hot evening in Rome overlooking the Spanish Steps. Bright tart cherries, vibrant acidity and a touch of new oak. Old school, very dry and almost vibrating on the finish.

What a Barbera should be; lovely soft fruit, a caress of wood and then that bright, fresh acidity that makes it such a food friendly wine.
