Striking aromas of raspberry jam, cherries and violets right out of the gate, complemented by smoky herbs. Pleasingly bitter and mineral finish. Gorgeous wine—nothing rustic about this Cornas

Approachable but obviously very fussed after and very small production, which was obvious as I tasted this wine from a bottle opened in Balthazar's own very modest but well kept cellar, despite his protestations that it was very dirty. Everything you could want in a Cornas with a flawless pedigree - lead and chalk backbone, raspberry jam fruit that becomes more pronounced as it opens, and crushed flowers...a big step up from his standard offering, this bottle does not disappoint and could probably age for years to come.
