Chucked bottle prematurely, so I think was a 2019. Saumur reds, ie, in this case 100% cab franc seemed to have bulked up the last few years. Yes, it’s a richer, deeper wine but does the ripeness suit the varietal, at least in the Loire? Here I would say yes. Plenty for Chinon lovers- gobs of red fruits, like crushed raspberries & cranberries, but bay leaf too on back end- it’s a nice longish finish.

Day 2: Cola and dark cherry nose, with graphite and smoke. Underripe currant leaking out as well. Gritty tannin with cranberry and cherry fruit. Chalky minerality. Lingers well, plenty of dimension.

Light. Lots of violet. Not bad at all for $20
