(My daughter’s dog Lena (short for Valtellina) photo-bombed the picture, even though she’s unrelated to this grape.) Feral nose has lots of iron, smoky earth, and funkified meat. Flavorful, medium-full, and relatively complex in the mouth. Mostly on the savory and earthy side, with lots of smoky gravel and only an undercurrent of fruit. Nice!

May 3rd, 2020Nose of iodine, cured meats, and dark fruits. Heavy in the kirsch flavors, lean tannins. Medium-plus body. Still a very well crafted wine. 2016 was good for this wine and I’ll enjoy seeing how it changes over the years as I pull bottles out of the cellar.

Color of different shades of purple. Nose is warm with vanilla, a bit dried strawberries, milk chocolate, resins, and a bit honey. Taste is acidic, black tea flavor, terroir oriented in the first take. Juicy raisins and zest in the 2nd sip. Some cocoa, minty flavor, a bit salty mineral, peach, and slight sweetness also surface. Aftertaste of black tea, a bit spice, smooth and enjoyable. Light yet high quality and flavored Syrah.

Ripe and complex Syrah with well integrated oak and tannins. Olives, salami, and ripe red fruits on the nose. Enjoyed by itself with friends, wish we would’ve eaten with it. Will buy again to pair with food!
