Destemmed, super select harvest from 35 year old vines in the Côtes de Nuits. Fermented and aged in a combo of new and one and two year barrels.
The son, Jérôme, started to transition into running the estate in 2007. The parcels he oversees are respected purchases made by his grandfather after WWII. Slightly reduced and muted on the nose at first, but showing lovely notes of dried flowers and pink peppercorns nonetheless. Full and spiky in the mouth with pomegranate fruit and pith leading to a sturdy mineral core, like crushed stones. Another beautiful offering from Castagnier. Serious burgundy.
