Terrific bottle of Burgundy, really extraordinary for a village wine. Deep, expressive aromas right from the pop of the cork - no doubt this one is going to be in the zone. It starts out rugged and a bit plodding for a Chambolle, intensely earthy and briary with an almost tarry minerality, almost more like a Nuits, except with a bit of caramel sweetness giving it more immediate allure. The longer it sits the more it freshens up and brings the bright red fruit into the foreground, which is still very fresh and nice to see along with all those tertiary elements. It remains densely stuffed - this is not the ethereal sort of Chambolle - but it does seem to lighten in weight along with tone as it lifts itself up from that initial earthiness and turns more lively.
